Waterproofing Kenetrek Boots?

Postby ElkNut1 » 02 01, 2015 •  [Post 1]

Does anyone know what's recommended for these boots so they are waterproofed but yet still breathe? Just picked up a pair & I don't see any info on sealing them? Thanks!

Kenetreks boot wax is the same as Obenauf's. But Google up Nik Wax and read up on it. It is recommended for use with Gore Tex products. I've used it for years and it's worked well for me. I use Obenaufs initially. Then if it's downright soggy out I'll hit them with Nik Wax in the morning because it requires no heat to soak in.

Paul- just be careful. They claim if you use stuff other than their product it voids the warranty. I've never really looked into it but I also just use the Kenetrek stuff because I don't want to risk it. Always curious how they would know. Must be some UV dye or something...

I have always treated my Kenetreks with Nikwax. It has worked really well so far.

Do not use Obenauf's. I used that last year on my Kenetreks and it made the rubber rand peel away from the leather. Something about it makes the glue lose its adhesiveness. It wasnt a big issue b/c I sent it back to them and they repaired it with no issue. They just recommened using a different product.

Thanks for the heads up there. Don't need the rand coming loose that's for sure!

I bought a pair a while back, they told me not to use any thing on them. Just curious about the results you may have had with your leather treatments.
