Well....things fell through. I needed minimum 2 folks and my number two has had some recent issues. It's all good though. Means I have more time to plan for 2016.

It probably works out for the best for me anyway. My youngest will be going to New Orleans for some treatments this summer for the TBI she suffered in the accident. I probably let my desire to go THIS year override good sense. This was the year that me and the oldest were supposed to go. Well it's all water under the bridge now.

Sorry to hear that Baldy. Solid partners: The biggest factor in an elk hunt.... and the one that is beyond our control. At the rate you were going you should have a master plan by next year. If I could make a suggestion it would be to buy a bonus point in Wyoming this summer. They sell them online for $50 from July 1 to September 30. If you don't use it in 2016.. buy another that year. I'll bet you an elk filet that eventually the idea of hunting there will appeal to you.

It is disappointing news
Plenty of advantages to spending an extra year getting ready. Get pref pts wherever you want, maybe take a scouting trip, restaff your team. Many of us are already thinking ahead to the 2016 season.

No doubt Elkduds. I have lots of plans in the works for 16. I have high hopes of shooting the mule deer of my dreams. And if all goes well this year a return trip to Alaska. Never too soon to start making a plan.

All I can say is never stop dreaming. If not 16 then 17 or 18. Personally my archery dreams are on hold for another 8 years or so. I've haven't been archery hunting elk the past 2 years because of my sons football schedule. The right hunting partner is tough to come by. I've been through 3 myself.

There are lots of options out there if the stars align and things fall into place between now and September. Plenty of over the counter tags for Colorado. There is always the option to get in the truck and head west. Buy a tag for a otc unit at Walmart on your way. I've gone solo before and its not bad. Met some good friends that were locals and they put me on some elk. It might be a bit much for your first hunt, but plenty of good guys on here to help ya with that. When I first started elk hunting we didn't have sites like this to learn from. Once I found this site I learned 10 times more information than I ever knew about elk hunting, and I learned it from guys just like me.

Don't give up hope. The sooner you start your elk addiction the better. Trust me you will regret not doing it sooner.

X3 I agree. Life is too short too wait for a partner! If you can swing tags for yourself and oldest, fuel money ( cheapest it will probably be for a long time) , food, and tent rental. Go!! Crunch the numbers!!! If anything else you will spend a great week in the mountains, recharge your batteries, make memories, and learn a lot. After a week in 54 you may decide thats not the unit for you and spend the money in a unit better suited for you. Call me any time. Pm sent

I've got a bunch of guys that want to go but it was going to be tough for them. One guy has a young family and couldn't justify in his mind spending 2grand on a hunt and not including them. Another guy has had some recent issues that will require a lawyer ( family type stuff). Another guy hasn't given me any kind of answer.

Having an extra year does allow me to look at Wyoming harder. Spent a week in Cody a couple years back and loved it.

I know the TBI feeling, my oldest suffered a concussion with TBI last year playing soccer. It's been a long road to recovery, and two days before bow elk season this year he broke his wrist. The positive of all this; is watching him persevere through it all.

As elk hunting is an addiction - family is a much bigger one.
