Foot ware

Not sure if this is the right thread or not for this, but what do you prefer to ware on you're feet while scouting in the early months and while trying to do the deed later on in September. Boots of sorts or running/jogging shoes. Myself I am more of a shoe guy as long as it has deep tread

Definitely a thread for our gear forum.

I am not a shoe guy. I'm all about ankle support so uppers are important. They make boots these days that are light enough to take the place of those low riding hiker shoes.

After many years of body damage I need two things out of a boot:
support and fit, I get this out of Meindls.

God didnt bless me with great feet. i know guys that can wear ANYTHING.

me, not so much. i get by with Schnees Beartooths for the really rough stuff. for most of my hunting, i am sacrificing a pair of Lowa Renegades. not the most durable boot so i dont wear them except on hunts. (no daily wear). but they are the only boot that fit right out of the box, zero blisters.

i find myself a better hiker when i allow some ankle flex. my hiking feels very "clumpy" with the beartooths, where i could sprint after things with the Renegades.

Fit and comfort ... not much else matters. Good fit = no blisters Comfort = longer treks

I've had very good luck with non steel cleated sport-turf shoes (my baseball shoes) scouting preseason. But if there's snakes or cactus it's high (10" +) boots. I've been hit twice in the boot by Buzztails, no injuries just new underwear.

I'd need running shoes for sure. I don't mind lions, wolves, or even grizzlies... but I'm like a little girl when it comes to snakes. They never announce their presence. Just sort of appear out of nowhere. If I hunted anywhere near them I'd be wearing snake proof chaps so I was protected up to the Rocky Mountain oysters. No, forget that: I ain't hunting where there are snakes.

If I was hit in the boot by a "buzztail" there wouldn't be an elk for 5 miles after they heard my reaction.

The first time was about at 24"+ "buzztail" that rattled just enough for me jump up hill and he hit me in the boot ..... he died shortly afterwards.
The second time I was sneaking up on a bedded down buck and wasn't paying enough attention to where my feet were stepping ...... stepped right on top one. He was only about 12" and he only had a few inches of his head free and was banging the side of my boot .............. new underwear again ......... he got away and I didn't bother to look for him. Both times were in the Blue Mts of SE Washington and I was hunting alone miles from my vehicle.

Hay IS , I am going to have to come over for a visit! That way, I know where you live so I can set up some traps for you with rubber snakes. I can catch it all on my trail cameras and we can all get a laugh!!! Kinda like the pranks they play on the old Jackie bush wacker!!!
