I stumbled upon a this site about a week ago and have really been enjoying. I have really taking a liking to the tips section. I'm from Alberta Canada. While we have some decent elk hunting opportunities here, we do not have the elk #s like the states of Colorado or Wyoming. We have some of the best mule deer hunting right out my back door in the rolling hills of the Milk River Ridge here in southern Alberta.mwe have lots of whitetails, but the immediate area is not known for real trophy class. Within 1 hour of my doorstep I can view, moose, elk, mule deer, whitetails, cougar, black bear, wolf, Grizzlies, bighorn sheep and mountain goat and antelope. The only one of those not huntable is the grizzly, as Alberta has no grizzly season but we are in desperate need of one and the push is on to have it reopened. I've been hunting elk for quite awhile, but like most of us, haven't really been able to put in the time required. On Dec28 2010 I took my first elk.i had been applying for this area for 7 years before I was lucky enough to draw a license. This hunt is unique, it starts Dec25 and continues to Feb21. The unit borders a national park which holds many elk, and with the right conditions they will leave the park to find better feed. I'm going to try and load a picture on here now, so bear with me. Thanks you very much. I am loving your forum.

My elk grossed 362 and netted 348. Oh how I wish he had his right royal.

Nice bull Prairie! I'd like to hunt that country. It looks like I could tear it up. I know an outfitter near Calgary named Dewey. He owns Anchor D Outfitting. There's a 6 point minimum on bulls in his area and they do very well. Maybe you've heard of him. I have a friend from New Brunswick that does some guiding for him.

Glad you found us as started the year right by registering. Welcome aboard and have a Happy New Year.

Thanks for the replies. Had been hunting elk quite a few years befor I got him, but it gave me full on elk fever since. The last 4 years have been spent in an over the counter tag area that sees a lot of pressure from other hunters as well as people camping and atving in elk season.its a real bummer. But this last fall had a few good encounters with elk and feel like we are starting to close in on them. We hunt all species but nothing really seems to get me going like elk do. Even calling coyotes this year has lost some of its luster.
