I am building a camper that I can take off road and live in for weeks at a time. It will be designed to take the cold with no grunts.

No rodents and plenty of ground clearance. I am going to spray foam the walls ceiling and floor.

I will continue to post pictures as I make progress.

Wouldn't it have been easier to start with a small cargo trailer?

No rodents !? That's half the fun of hunting out of a camper - trapping out all the rodents at night while you're hunting. I run a trap line and back that up with a blowgun. I've killed some Booner mice !

Actually my camper trailer is about shot. Jumping jack makes a nice one. I was thinking about building a camper on one of those military pickup bed type trailers... I'll be following your build closely.

Couple questions as you get started: What size truck or trailer is this for? What weight are you aiming for? Thanks for posting this thread, should be good.

The camper is going to be a pull type. I will build my own frame. It will have tandem torsion axles. It is 20' long by 8' wide. You can see the camper goes into the nose. The other half of the nose will be a porch. Expanded metal on the floor. The porch floor will be solid into the triangle of the nose, then fold out making it square. The porch will be 4'x5'. The door will be covered with the porch roof. The front door will be a dutch door, split in the middle so the top and bottom can be opened separately. You will be able to leave the top portion open during a rain. I expect it to weigh around 6-7000 pounds. 'There will be three windows in the camper, all awning windows. Again you can leave them open when it rains.

I got my inspiration from the sheep camp and gypsy wagons. I plan on having two full size beds on the one end they will be like bunk beds.

The heater will be propane. A small yacht type heater. A cook stove-propane and ref. It will have solar panels for charging the batteries. It will have a 93 gal. fresh water tank,mounted inside the insulated portion of the camper, no freezing!

A cargo trailer does not have enough clearance. I wanted a full 3 1/2 inch wall also. I want to be able to heat this thing with very little fuel.

what truck will you be using? i cant wait till you finish! you ever seen those tiny wall wood stoves they install in those "tiny homes"? i heard they work amazing, and take up very little space hanging on a wall.

I have a Dodge 2500 diesel. The camper will be very comparable to the Timberline range camp camper.

Yours will be better than theirs, for sure. Will you have 2 axles under the center?

Yea two axles. After figuring the price of axles brakes ect I think I am going to have the trailer built. I can get a custom boat trailer builder to do one in aluminum that weighs only 1500#.
