Does Your Lady Elk Hunt?

OK folks, who's wives/girlfriends hunt elk with a bow or rifle? My wife has elk hunted in the past with a rifle but she hasn't done it in many years. She's taken several elk in the past but has no interest these days. I tried to talk her into bowhunting them a bit but she says she wouldn't be able to keep up! (grin) Of course I told her it wasn't a race but just a normal pace would suffice, she said no way! How have you gotten your significant other to hunt alongside you?

Not a chance. She loves elk meat and cooks it all the time. But she just isn't interested in killing anything. She likes to fish though.

Probably better that way because as we all know the going can get tough and there's no question bringing the wife or girlfriend would mean some limitations. Mainly on how much ground you can cover. I'm not interested in having ANY limiting factors when it comes time to chase bulls.

Yes, I hear you on the slowing you down part but I have plenty of areas that are more subtly suited that hold elk. On those days when I wanted to hunt hard steep terrain I wouldn't ask her to go on those hunts & burden her with the difficult terrain. If she'd give it a try we'd have a blast she just doesn't know it, no one couldn't have a great time with bulls bugling! (grin)

No, but she loves to hear them sing. She did fish with me for a while, but she would never get up at 4am to hunt!

No, my wife fully supports me going but has no interest herself. That's fine with me, we have a lot of other things we do together.

Indeed she does and I feel pretty lucky to have my wife as a hunting partner....

Mine doesn't hunt but she likes to scout with me and has a good eye and will always help with the packing it out. I like that arrangement.

most of the guys I hunt with want me to hold their hands, I don't think I could handle hunting with the wife, not that she would want to anyway. with that said we both enjoy flinging arrows and lead at various kinds of targets.

My wife doesn't hunt and I've always told myself I like it that way - she has her own obsessions and I have mine and that works for us. But I can't help thinking when I run into couples on the mountain hunting together that it sure must be nice to have a beautiful lady in camp ! Sometimes it gets pretty lonely out there on solo backcountry hunts when I think of my family back home...

Interesting question, but I'm on the other side of it. Doubt my husband will ever hunt, scout, or fish with me--just not not an outdoorsy guy. Fortunately, he's very accepting of my need for wilderness therapy. It means he gets to spend extra time on his own interests, or special father/daughter time with our kiddo. It's a win-win situation for us, but will be perfect when I graduate from being a "vegetarian" hunter!

ABQ, you are in a very unique situation for sure! It reminds me a bit of Mtnmutt's challenges, perhaps the two of you should hook up for an elk hunt! (grin) I think it's pretty darned cool that you have the passion & desire to want to elk hunt on your own, you are an inspiration for sure, thanks for your post!

No way, She doesn't even like to be in the mountains. I not complaining because she support me 100%. She lets me buy what ever I need or want.

My wife archery elk hunted with her dad thirty years ago. She was her dads main partner mulie and bear hunting
We hunted as a family for swans, ducks, deer and antelope. good family fun.
She doesn't hunt with me much anymore she likes the warm house and sleeping in

This year was my wife's first year of elk hunting. She didn't fill her tag, but we had a blast spending time together and trying to find her a bull. We have deer hunted together for nearly 20 years and she has been very successful. She took a monster blacktail this year, and now has the rights to say she has the biggest buck taken in our family. With her determination it won't be too many seasons before she is filling an elk tag too. I'm blessed to have a wife that loves hunting, fishing, and the outdoors in general.

My wife helped me scout this year and loved it!! She is a trooper! I'm trying to hold her back from archery hunting. She wants to, but is settling for a rifle cow tag for this year to get started.
