toning it down??

Postby bloodarrow » 08 22, 2014 •  [Post 1]

As we get closer to the magical moment of elk camp, do you make any changes in your fitness regime? Tone it down? Ramp it up? Myself, Ive been focusing a little more on cardio, and more reps with lighter weights, trying not to pull anything, or do anything that might hamper my abilities afield. I was invited to a friends badmington tourny, (lots of drinking and competitve badmington), and even though I am the defending champ, I had to politely decline, as to avoid any accidental ankle twist, knee sprain, etc...

I changed from mountain bike riding hills(cardio) and potential for injury to walking longer distances with and without pack.. Continue to diet.

mix of hiking with 60lb pack, running, and road biking. 3 days of weights too. I'm 95% of where I want to be! Feeling good!

I too have backed it down some. Have gone to lighter weight with slower and more deliberate movements and started doing a lot of stretching, as per a physical therapist friend.

I've been doing more cardio and less weights but won't do any thing the week before I leave. Which means I have one week left!

Doing the same thing, one day running, the next walking with my pack and a 50lb. bag of seed corn. Will continue untill the last day. Nothing compares to the mtns. themselves, however, and no matter what I do at home, it still takes 3 days in the mtns.to get conditioned.
Down 33lbs. now, 2 lbs. to go to reach my goal weight of 175lbs.LOTS more energy, and starting to feel sorry for the wife...............not.LOL.

I'll probably eliminate hiking and mowing my yard with 50# of rock salt on my back. My hip will ache for a day or two after that, so I need stop that. The neighbors probably think I'm a little touched!
Since March I've been climbing a vertical ladder once a week, five times in a row without stopping, its 100 ft tall. My mainstay workout is 30-35 minutes on a rowing machine and 5-6 minutes on a stationary bike. These are non risky exercises, so I'll continue them up until I leave. And since I hadn't missed a single day of doing the mainstay workout since Dec. 21, I'll continue with them up until I leave, it helps me mentally think I ready to go. In a couple of weeks I'll find out.

Happy Hunting!

I think I just did my last trip to the gym before heading to colorado next week Tuesday night. I'll probably do a little more 'walking around' with my pack on, shooting with my pack on, etc.....but otherwise, Ive dropped almost 35 pounds, and im as lean and mean as Im going to get. Bring on the mountains!! Good luck to all out there and hunt safe.

I was ramping up, but just hurt my foot on a ten mile hilly run :x Seems ok but still sore after 5 miles yesterday, so I am taking a few days off from running and work on some lower impact training, my cardio is always good so I need to work on power in my legs!

I don't work out , but am very active
Im forced to tone down everything, Just not enough days to hunt, get ready for the next hunt, clean up from the last hunt, keep up at work and at home.
This year I plan to continue to shoot during the whole week. Trying to keep my shoulder strong,..
I really avoid doing anything that will tweek my back
