Postby Wapiti » 08 19, 2014 •  [Post 1]

So I went to pluck Some apples from my tree and I get a real surprise !! Bald Faced Hornets and these things are MAD !!! Very aggressive as well !!

So I am back on the attack now !!

Prey becomes the PREDATOR !! Let the hunt begin. I heard the best time to spray a hornet nest is at night. Wish me luck these things are huge and scary !!

Bald faced are the worst Wapiti. Be careful man! It's those two or three that land above you and watch and then swoop down and nail you in a flash. Get that spray that foams up and really smothers the entire nest. Hit it good and then get up real early the next morning and hit it again. Those things are scary!

A couple years ago in southern CO I encountered those things. They were everywhere and so many buzzing around I wouldn't have heard a bugling elk 200 yards away. Good luck ridding them!

No problem I used a hornet spray and shot the entrance hole and the spray kills on contact. The bodies of the dead block the hole trapping the rest inside ! They were furious inside and the buzzing was crazy for about 30 seconds then there was no more buzzing !! I then used a hornet spray foam and soaked the outside of the nest.

Not a single hornet escaped !! Predator prevails !!

My first kill of the season so now bring on a bull !!

Well I was gone away out of town all weekend and I had told my next neighbor to come pick some apples a couple days prior to leaving. I was stand at my tree and actually plucked a few apples as she stood out on her deck and watched me. I was picking apples and looking up at her talking and never saw the hornet nest or even any hornets.

Well I get home and she comes over and starts to tell me about a huge hornet nest in the apple tree !! She came to pick apples and got nailed 7 times by these vicious little buggers !! I say little buggers as a figure of speech but these things are huge and scary man !! Good thing she was not allergic to them and her dog got stung on the ear as well !! In fact she said they chased her right out of my yards to the front of the house.

so I go have a look and was surprised at how big this nest was and I am sure it was not there before I left for the weekend !! Well I hit up the local hardware store and get hornet spray. I waited till dark and had my wife hold the flash light and she was all bundled up as to not get stung. so I aim the can at the hole and my wife says " don't miss the hole !! HEHEHE " I look at her and say I never miss !! LOL. So I shoot the spray straight into the hole and the hornets start to come unglued !! They are buzzing and trying to get out the hole and the spray is so strong I can actually hit the big suckers and launch them back into the nest ! Well this stuff works fast and the dead and dying ones start to fall to the bottom of the nest and they are actually starting to plug the hole with there bodies.

Well I emptied the whole can it that nest and I checked it out this morning and they are all dead as you can see by the picture.

It was actually fun and easy and not a single one flew out.. I got them all !!

Good job Travis! I love the story, it made me laugh out loud. I hate those things, along with the darned ground hornets..... Those things are straight up thugs!!!! Nice addition to the growing meat pole already!
