are elk talking?

Haven't been able to get on the woods lately. Has anybody hard an increase in elk talking.

I was scouting the last weekend in July and the elk were talking already. I suspect it will be an earlier rut this season. The weather is cooling down much quicker then normal in Northern Colorado already.

I was out two days ago and they were very vocal. Hopefully they keep it up!

My hunting buddy was up this last week and had a herd come into the meadow he was camping in, talked all night he said and heard about 6 bugles. Small bull bugles he said.

not talking at all in the area I was at this weekend and I watched a large bull walking around all morning and a group of cows in the same general area.

Elk actually bugle all year, not as much as september but it will start increasing mid august till early sept when the real game begins. Talking now doesn't mean a whole lot, and is usually spotty. This is all just warm up with younger bulls attempting to make themselves feel tough before any cows are ready. Miller1 your dates should be great. If you want to hit more prerut and first part of peak I'd move up, but your dates should be great with lots of talking.

Most elk calve during at 10 day +/- window each year, and one would assume there is a strong relationship between the rut and calving and based on the idea that elk do talk most of the year. I certainly would not be changing my schedule to come any earlier, but of course that is just my 2cents worth. Best of luck to all....

We'll be in central Colorado for opening day next Saturday. Due to lack of vacation days we need to take advantage of Labor day to make our hunt at least a week long. They haven't been overly vocal on trips in the past, even in mid-September. And our hunting is in heavy timber with few locations to spot. It helps to locate the elk when they are bugling, but even when they are quiet we have had decent success. An earlier rut would be most advantageous for us.
