Colorado Unit 81

I have a good buddy that is going to hunt this unit and I would like to help him with some choices on where to start. I have never hunted it and neither has he. Just wondering if anyone would have a little info to share. They will be packing in on horse back. And no I am not going with him. Just helping out a friend.

81 has good numbers of elk but also has a ton of hunters. There is great hunting in the south end of the unit as well as the western part in the South San Juan Wilderness if you are willing to pack in away from the roads and main trails. The parking lots where the outfitters access the wilderness look like a rodeo is going on sometimes . Good unit but a little too popular IMO.
