Two weeks to go,... what to get ready?

Postby Lefty » 08 15, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Im down to switching arrows. and time to replace all the batteries in the range finder, trail cam, pack light
Get the pickup serviced and Rain-x the inside and out glass on the pickup, and for me treat all the lenses on my optics,
All my camp gear gets sterilized,.. tent , bed roll, sleeping bags, coolers, and the last of the honey-dos
And pull my gear out one more time just to make sure every thing is there.
I walked though the archery shop Tuesday,. I couldnt find anything to buy, so I bought a call

I think I am ready, equipment is all good, shooting good, bow tuned, all my food is bought except for perishables.
Just have to service truck, load the trailer and hit the road. 900 miles to eastern Oregon. first time hunting opening week
I have the month to get it done, I will be solo the first 10 days, looking forward to a great hunt.
Good luck to all.

Getting all my gear in order also. Will be flying to Colorado from KY.
Just take my ultralight tipi , bow and other essential gear . Rent an SUV and setup the tipi on the side of the road or pack it into the wilderness area and enjoy the hunt.
I am taking the month to enjoy the hunt and fellowship with the other hunters I have met in the past.
Met a gentleman last year . He is 66 and his buddies have given in to old age or physical problems . I helped him get his very large gooseneck camper set up and the next thing you know we were out hunting together for the next few days.
We plan on meeting again this year and hunt a couple days.
Getting new arrows , washing all the clothes, shooting broad heads only, getting my new Kifaru pack broke in, looking at trail maps , looking at google earth , watching the weather where I will be hunting , working when I have to , buying new calls even though I have plenty , hanging out all night on the elk nut blog.

I'm LOSING MY MIND . Bad case of ELK FEVER!!

All the gear is pulled down and laying on the garage floor. The bows are tuned and ready. Now its time to freeze up a bunch of ice blocks, grocery shop, finish sewing up a few extra game bags, pack, and go. Our camp is pretty elaborate so we been working on getting everything together for the last couple months. I actually am watching the damn clock tic by so slow because we have done our do diligence to get things ready that most of what is left is pretty simple stuff.

I always laugh at the guys that scramble to get stuff fixed last minute. If you fix your equipment when you get back and before you put it away for the year then you don't have to worry about it when you pull it out for the next time. There will always be something small or minor that needs to be done however if your truck breaks down or you have a major repair to a tent or something you should really do that stuff the moment you get back home. Never put something off till tomorrow if you have the time to do it today. Last season my 4x4 auto hubs went out on the old truck. Turned out that I was glad that I fixed it after last season cause I am not sure I would be able to get it done now if I would of put it off. Every weekend this past couple of months have been filled with scouting, training, shopping, and so on. It seems like I am always away from the house on my days off.

I wish everyone a great season and I am looking forward to seeing all the success stories and pictures...

(studying every angle i can)... a lot of daydreaming........ and pretty un-productive at work........ ;)

Got all my gear ready in one room. Still have to wash all my clothes in scent free wash, get my truck serviced, study some more maps, continue shooting and get my bow tuned up. With 6 of us going we have gear scattered all over the place :) Half the group is leaving 2 days early so we can get base camp set up and hung a day or 2 before the rest of them arrive. Super excited !! Only a few more weeks to and I get to enjoy a hard working vacation
