Keeping you cooler cold(er), longer

Postby Mikeha33 » 08 15, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Guys,

I found this thread yesterday that can be very helpful to most of us within the next month or so. Check it out, print it off, whatever you need to do to help ensure that we can all get the most out of our coolers, and most importantly, get our prized meat taken care of effectively in a quick manner, and not have to panic when your 2+ hours from the nearest ice and it's 85* outside.

I have an old metal Colman cooler and it keeps ice for about 9 days. The trick was to get some 2in foam from lowes and built a box to go over the cooler and also have a 2in piece under the cooler. When my brother-in-law saw it he called it the eco-yeti.

If you can place a thin piece of plywood over your eco Yeti( love that term) your foam will last longer and dry ice can be placed on top of the plywood .

The article has some good suggestions for use that dont have a Yeti budget,... the salt water is a bit off base and so is the reasoning behind air in the water ( coming from a physics teachers perspective ;) )

I have a small cooler I keep food items in during my desert trips . Placing the cooler and anything that can be frozen in the freezer together gives you another 90 degree day day.

One of two things is going to happen. I will have a top end cooler or a foam lined bear box ( Im leaning towards the bear box)
