Anticipation Level?

Well Elknuts, you've waited for many months, locked in state, hunting partner(s), are finalizing gear check and calling practice, have or will service(ed) rigs, and are in the final phases of ensuring the home front will be just fine during your long awaited return to the best place in the world, the elk woods. How's your anticipation level? I'm teetering right about a 9.5.

remember high school when seniors start counting down days and that just made it go that much slower. that is the phase I'm in right now and it is annoying. 5 weeks and 2 days for me.

I'll second that 9.5 my only problem is that is on the Richter scale.

If im not a 10 now i will be in a week. we are leaving in 2 weeks from today. i should just go ahead and leave now to do some scouting because I am useless at work becaus my mind is not on it at all, my wife is tired of hearing about the hunting trip, my buddies are coming over 3-4 times a week to look over the maps we have poured over for months now, my grass is high and all i want to do is daydream about hunting and shoot my bow. like elk-n-walleye said though the time seems to crawl by, but that may be because i am counting down by the hour lol

I don't get to do an elk hunt this Sept but my anticipation level for some friends that do have a hunt and a couple of guys that I have tried to help is at least an 8, I can't wait to hear about their hunts.
What a great time of the year!

Even though it is hard I just have to accept that moose is taking place of the elk this year, I am heading to Alaska on Sept 12th and my anticipation level is at least a 10!

I'm at a 10. I head down the trail-head THIS FRIDAY!!!! It doesn't help that I am holding a LE Bull tag and a Deer tag in my pocket! Time is standing still I do believe.

I'm trying to relax a bit and sooth the excitement level a little before Utah opens this weekend. I am really looking forward to hunting in September, most of that hunting time will be spent in Idaho for me. I will find out soon if I did enough this off season to really push past my previous limits. I think I am more in the finalizing everything state of mind and past the excitement high until I actually step into the woods and see / hear the first ELK.

Interesting thread. I don't think I ever get excited, but I am nearly ready. Most of my preparation is finished or in the final stage.

Leaving 2 weeks from today!!!! Almost completely packed, will pack some more after work today. Shoot bow more today, practice calls more today, worked out this morning. Let's see... I would say a 10 out of 10, looking forward to it but wished my son or some of my buddies were going.

Through the roof! 23 days & counting, slowly! I'm not ready yet though. I was shooting the yesterday at our indoor range, and my slide bar came out of my bow and tweaked everything. Turns out, It had been creeping and thrown me out of whack. When we pushed it back in, I was shooting high and left, and it was out of tune. So we went back to paper, and was definitely shooting out, arrow tailing to the right. Re-sighted on the spot, still wouldn't get perfect, so we moved the rest, and I'm just now finishing tweaking it back to perfect. Should have her dialed in perfect by the end of the night. Pack isn't packed yet, still need to finalize food, but I think I could be ready in 2 hours if I absolutely had to be.

22 days left until we leave Mississippi headed for Colorado. Going farther and doing more on the exercise machines than I ever have (scouting trip in July kicked my butt!). Got my Elite compound bow as right as I can get it, shooting comfortable groups out to 60 yards. Got the Bob Lee Recurve ready as my backup bow. Every night I think of something else and go put it in my daypack. Tag, license, pen and zip ties are already in the day pack. Hunting buddy bought a camper shell for his truck today, we have plenty of storage space now.

Why can't we just go ahead and leave tomorrow?

Ct, you may have a good point. I watch my grand kids and try to compare with them. It is probably not fair, because they know how to get excited. My advise is never tell them about something they may get excited about, too far in advance. Do not say we are going camping a month in advance, unless you want suitcases with swimming clothes etc. lined up at the door within about an hour. I am definitely looking forward to going and have most things in the truck or trailer already. Come to think of it, maybe the grand kids are a lot like ...... humm, maybe you are right.

Different year for me this year. I had planned on a trip to other end of Idaho, but got a new job that I start in ten days. It's always a little nerve racking going into a new job, so the normal excitement has been slightly curtailed. I am still going but will be doing the weekend thing. Did just go to an old wallow to get a camera going and reposition a treestand. So I would say I am a firm 8.5.

I'm very excited and I'm ready. I have a few other distractions going on right now so I'm busy. Still doing everything I need to be ready for labor day elk!

I know about excited kids. I ask mine to camp with me as we are setting up the tent. Otherwise, they ask about it every few seconds. I kind of envy that. I haven't shown that much excitement in ages and that's a shame

I was at about a 6 last weekend. Saw a couple really Nice bulls last weekend. Went out flying today and the amount of elk I saw around Fort Carson was just ridiculous. Anyone hunting in Trinidad or down near Pinyon Canyon PM me can tell you right where those Bulls were busted by the Chinooks today lol...
After being on this web site last few days and seeing tons of elk I would say I am a solid 9 for sure now.
I will be at a 10 when I step into the woods on my own two feet and hear that first Elk Bugle or Cows talking.

I'm gonna say eight but that's because some of the spots I went to scout didn't turn up to much but I still have my ares and am making a new plan in some different areas which I believe hold the elk at about that time of year and is only about a twenty minute drive from home:)

I can't sleep worth a damn and I've been spending a lot of time with calls in my mouth practicing. Don't think my shipmates care much for the calling. Might get thrown overboard before elk season gets here

I'm trying not to get to worked up but the closer it gets the more hours at work I lose to day dreaming! The first couple of times I went out west I couldn't even sleep at night . I might have slept 3-4 hours a night. Now I know I have to take captain Morgan with me for a night cap! Only 23 more days till I leave so it's close!

I hope I don't get fired - productivity declines with the number of days until the season, and is inversely related to my excitement level. And I'm only hunting a few days this year!!!

I would say I am at about 9.3 ....leaving in 16 days Friday has to wait a couple more days before he can leave and by the time he arrives he and the other two guys will have to start packing out our elk already
