I'm beginning to think that very few manufacturers can justify the prices the charge, including Sitka. I haven't bought any Sitka clothing because i have such a bad taste in my mouth from the Pack I bought (their largest). I have friends that have purchased Sitka. One has plenty of money and he's very much a gear-nut, has to have the best of the best (or at least the most expensive). He's not a very serious hunter IMO when comparing him to some of the backcountry guys we have here. My other friend is a hunting fool on a budget, he's a beast. He just finished 3rd in his age group (30-35) in the St. George Iron Man and was invited to compete in the World Championships in Hawaii. He puts gear through hell! He bought the 90% Jacket and Pants and promptly wore/tore holes through them in 1 season and got SOAKING Wet during a mild rain storm. He's NOT impressed with Sitka and keeps trying to sell his used stuff to me (No Thanks).

That's what I know.

If a person has the money, why not!!!!! You can't take it with you. If I found my size of Sitka at a garage sale for cheap I would try it. For now walmart and clearance racks is the way for me. I would rather save me money for tags and gas and a chance to go.

I love my Sitka Gear, and it has no durability issues for me and I walk threw thick unforgiving brush all the time. The camo barley faded on me having used them for well over a season now and washed them many times. The stuff I have is very comfortable, washes and dries in the field good, very light weight, and if used correctly the layering is great. I love the camo and think the open country pattern is one of the best if not the best out there. I am interested in the lowest weight gear that is as tuff and performs better or on par with other gear for an on the go style of hunting. You don't need Sitka Gear to be successful and if your not looking to cut down the weight you carry or you still hunt allot perhaps you would be spending a premium on something you won't get the benefits from. If you hit camofire.com and keep your eyes open in the off-season you can get the gear for 20-60% off. At Full price it is a tough sell.

I've been using Sitka for 8 years, and my original set is still going strong. I was fortunate enough, however, to be able to purchase it as dealer cost, and still can. IMHO, their newer stuff is not what it once was. When Goretex took over Sitka, they did away with all of the camo patterns, except for the computer generated camo that Goretex owns the rights to. I t is effective, but I don't like the looks, they are behind the curve on their Mernino proucts, ans one of the original Sitka guys formed the Kuiu line. I have stopped purchasing Sitka products, and am now trying First Lite gear. The jury is still out, as I haven't hunted in it yet. I will be using the new stuff in a couple of weeks on a deer hunt in very rocky, rough country. The short answer is I do still use Sitka, but will only use what I already have, there will be no further purchases from them, even at wholesale pricing.

I don't think it is anymore. When they were the only line of "technical type" mountain clothing yes. The competition makes just as good or better products that cost less. The fit and function of these clothing systems are excellent. So much better than cotton, there really isn't even a discussion. They are all made out of Polyester except for Kuiu. I haven't used their stuff but it is still cheaper than the Sitka and gets rave reviews. The guy making it came up with the Sitka line so there really can't be a whole lot of difference.

Sitka is definitely quality gear but offers nothing over cheaper alternatives.

I think what it does have to offer is a better 4 way stretch. It doesn't restrict movement at all. That's a big deal. I love my Sitka gear. What if I told you that compared to conventional clothing I feel like a million bucks all day and not nearly as worn out at the end of each day? I can actually hunt further and longer day after day because I'm comfortable and not fighting my clothes to move.

My stuff is holding up really well. For pants there is only one choice for elk hunters and that's the Timberlines with waterproof knees and rear and padded knees. I also really like their merino bases but find that Core 4 Element and others are just as nice. I'm no happier than anyone else about the price but I take my hunting very seriously and so I look at it as another investment to help me be in the 10% that never lets a tag go unpunched.

I also "was" a big fan of sitka before gore took it over and discontinued the mtn. mimicry pattern. The grey pattern they sell now works good in dark timber, but not as good as the mtn. mimicry in my opinion,and the green seems to be to dark.
However,if you haven't experienced the high tech fabrics available to us for hunting, you are missing out! The 90% jacket and pants are outstanding,along with the assorted base layers, and I have two sets of each,along with most of the other gear they have available.
We climb up in the morning,and are drenched in sweat by the time we get to where we start hunting, but it only takes about 5 min.for the base layers to wick the moisture away,and together with body heat,we feel dry and very comfortable. I also love the core gloves,and the vest is in my pack all the time, and really keeps you warm while sitting.
All this stuff is too pricy,and now I only buy things that are deeply discounted, or discontinued,but I havn't had to buy much,as the only sitka that is wearing out is the base layers, and I think there are now better, cheaper options out there now.
As indian summer mentioned,I don't think that there is a better 4 way stretch than sitka, however, as I tried a different brand of pant, and was very unhappy with the cut, and the way they bunched at the knee.

i have one jacket. the 90%.

older, in mimicry. the thing is the toughest jacket ever. it is always in my pack. with a layer, i have been below freezing. having said that, while at REI, i found a burnt orange jacket that looks and feels the same. the sitka is a tad softer..but the zippers, everything is the same. i bought it to wear, and use as a "practice" jacket at the bow range. i have a lot of wear on both jackets..lots!! no snags or tears..zippers perfect.

the sitka is badass..i love it..but i probably doesnt need to be that expensive. in college, i learned it as "prestige pricing". line hook and sinker folks.

Love mine and have used it almost exclusively since I bought it years ago. Any of the new technical garments will do as advertised and will be better at providing all day comfort over our old style stuff.

I found some Ascent pants in the Mountain Mimicry camo pattern on Craigslist for $60. They fit and are in great condition. Well worth it.

Their stuff is all made in China. Wouldn't surprise me if ALL the camo clothes are made in the same factory.

This year is the first time I've used Sitka gear. I loved it! It rained hard for 4 days and we were walking threw waist high grass the whole time. I didn't get wet at all and all the other guys in camp had rain gear but still were soaked to the bone by the end of each day. The other guys said they'd have the dew point outfit by next year after they saw how dry I stayed. The only thing I didn't like about it was it's loud when its not raining. The mountain pants and 90% jacket worked great!

I bought a pair of the Timberline pants for this years hunt. It rained all day kept me dry. Loved the knee pads and waterproof knees and seat of the pants. Pushed through some rough and thick brush and had no problems what so ever. Would recommend these pants to anyone hunting. I may to try some other pieces later, expensive but worth it.
