Well, what's your chosen/planned cup of tea for this elk season. Having meaningful conversations (calling), spot and stalk or still hunting (crawling), or perhaps death from above (tree stand hunting) to knock down Edward or Edna elk this season? Perhaps a combination of several methods?

We try & stay versatile! This means we rely on what has worked in the past. It may start out as a stalk or short glassing ventures but ultimately arrows will fly because of calling of some sorts, this has proved true for us 90%-95% of the time, no need to get away from it now! (grin)

Since I didn't draw a tag here in NM this year, I'm planning on buying a late season archery bull hunt. It will be in December, so for me it's going to be spot and stalk.

For me this year I gonna slam the truck door hear a bugle walk over and shoot him. Yeah right. Trifecta for me this year, I going to run-n-gun and do some cold calling and if (when) I get to tired give my feet a rest and tree stand it. We are bringing a couple with this year.

Being quite a shock to me, I will tell you I've pretty much decided to focus on the tree stand tactic this year. This winter I got the playbook and Swede's book as well. The whole tree stand thing grew on me slowly this year, and really didn't decide until last weekend.
Now I am in really good shape, especially for 49, but this is more about hunting "smart" versus "hard". Not saying tree stand hunting is inherently smart or anything else isn't.. Let's just say I've been scouting and patterning my area to a degree that I am ready to see very few, if not just one or 2 elk this year- but have them right in my lap for a chip shot when I do...

Let's just hope I don't fall completely apart at the seams... I'll let you know.

Everything and anything. Mostly run and gun, but will try sitting a wallow again dispite last years lack of action. Repostioning it above the wallow for mid day sits as it seems to have more bulls sneaking in mid day from a nearby bedding area on camera. Best bull last year was at 2:40 pm when I was still sweating to get there only to arrive an hour later.

No tree stands yet. For now, just run, crawl, and call. 150 - 200 miles on the ground each season is normal.
