Who's Heading Out Opening Weekend?

As the title mentions, who's heading out for the opener? I'll be out there for sure, of course I live in elk country so it makes the decision a bit easier plus its tradition! (grin) Can't wait to set up the Wall-Tent!!! Good Luck all.

I will be heading out for opening weekend, first time for me to hunt the opener in eastern Oregon.
I have the whole season to get it done. 28 days and 1000 miles and I will be in camp.

I will be leaving the 3rd of September from Henryetta, OK driving for 24 hours to the vicinity of Hamilton, MT for the September 6 opener in Montana. Can't wait to breath some mountain air and stroll the trails in search of "boxcar" (name some friends that hunted with my brother gave a huge elk in the Cascades some years back. You could see this critter miles away with the naked eye he was so huge. Hence the name "boxcar".)

With all of the trout streams in the vicnity and to break things up a little i will be doing some fly fishing as well. Plan to stay 3-4 weeks just taking it easy and enjoying the pursuit.

The opener is on a Saturday this year in my unit, I suppose there will be more pressure. I can't get out til the 4th or 5th, so I might be getting educated Elk to play with.

Almost. Heading out the day after the season opens in the Evergreen state for a 4-5 day hunt. Won't step foot in the Gem state until mid SEPT. It's getting close

Won't be headed out til the week after opener, which I am happy with. Last year, the elk weren't as vocal during the first week, but I've heard that they really picked up around the 10th, so we're heading out the 6th-13th. It's gonna be a long 37 days, but I've got a ton to do, so hopefully it passes quick, cause once it's here, its a long 358 days .

I am sure glad that those days are over. my youngest turned 6 and is going out with me to the mtns to scout next week!

nope i'll pass, i'm going the last two weeks of the season.... went last year and it was full of ATV's and hound hunter's, not really my cup of tea.... i'll be antelope/deer hunting from Sept. 8th till whenever I decide too go elk hunting.... my wife is so great...

I have the 5 days prior to the opener off which gives me chance to do some last minute scouting. Then I have opening weekend off, then back to work for 2 days, then off for 2 more weeks. Can't wait!!!

i will be out opening morning, and i have the entire early archery elk season off work, and if i cant make it happen between september 2-14th, damnit ill get the late archery season off too! thats november 25-dec8th. and ive already got november 8-20th off for whitetail, so why not just give me late elk too? just have to put some lipstick on and go up into the office for that late elk season maybe.

I am going up at 530am on Friday the day before opening day and not coming home until The day after the season closes. I have the entire season off from work. My girlfriend does as well. My son is going to be with us for opening weekend then head back to school for nine days then he is coming up the third week of season for nine days. Four and half weeks from today and counting down.

I won't be in camp, but I'll be archery hunting Sept. 2 to 8. Since it's a preserve hunt, my partner and I will get only the evening of Aug. 31st and all day Sept. 1st to scout our area. There are 15 areas, so only 15 hunters (and 1 guest per hunter). No one has been "bumping" or calling these elk, so I am keyed up. Good luck to all.

It all depends on if I am able to put a buck on the ground before then. If I do yes I will be out there opening day, if not I will be chasing velvet bucks as that will be my last weekend for you deer and then my focus will shift to elk.

Been retired for 11 years and have spent he entire archery season in Colorado every year since. We get to camp on the Tue before, set up camp, set up trail cameras and tree stands. Do a little scouting and enjoy the entire season. Shot a few bulls over the years on opening day and enjoyed the rest of the season helping friends get there's. Some years I have multiple tags, deer, elk and bear.

Leaving For my camp the 29th for a three day hunt, plan to hunt four three-day weekends unless I tag out early. I'm lucky enough to live within an our of my elk hunting area so I might get a few afternoon hunts in as well.

I have only ever hunted WA for archery so have never hunted past Sept. 21st. This year my dad and I are hunting Idaho so we aren't starting till the last two weeks of September. Finally getting to hunt the rut... very exited
