Cold Shot #2 - Think like BB

Here goes. Cold shot #2 involves holding for at least 15 seconds and then using your mouth call to stop the bull, refocus, and shoot within 3 -5 seconds. I put masking tape on my targets to remind me to "think like BB" - Up the leg and in the V!! 3 arrows in this one, farthest is only 32 as that's as far as I can shoot in my backyard without the neighbors calling the police. BB made shooting thru the > common place over there on Bowsite for those of us just starting out and or those who just didn't know how far forward elks vitals are. Thanks to Joehunter copying and pasting on A/T I saw it and I'm here to tell ya that shooting thru the center of the v puts them down in site or earshot. Quick clean kills and to me that's what it's all about.

do yourself a favor and just go to the bowsite and do a search on BB (antelope forum - as one of his favorites)...his infromative posts are really worth it!!! Heck, his pictures are amazing alone!!!! I have changed my aiming point since reading his stuff yrs ago! it works.......PaLongshank

I had never heard of the "V" either. I was curious and looked it up on bowsite. Here is a link to the thread for anyone else who is interested. There are a lot of good pictures explaining it.

I like how you have your target set up. Good post, as you can see, this is a much better aiming spot than the crease

Thanks, this target stand has evolved over the years, and is born from much more complex setups. I like the simplicity, the height, it's easy to move and adjust, and I can burn it this winter. The driveway cut dirt behind it stops most of my misses w/o damage, but I'm missing less these days. And this stand has taught me not to shoot low, because not only is it no fun to dig $10 arrows out of 3 inches of log, now something somewhere has some big globs of pinion sap just waiting to gum up everything.

Until Mama says yes to a 3d elk target, I'll tape a sideways "v" on all my targets.
