summer scouting / allergies

Postby wawhitey » 07 06, 2014 •  [Post 1]

so this feels like a stupid thing to be asking for advice on, but during the last few days while ive been going out to check cams and glass from high points in my better elk spots ive been having massive sneezing fits lasting 5+ minutes that i hear echoing back at me from the surrounding peaks. i know every elk / deer / bear in the county is hearing me, and im blowing snot all over my prime spots. this cant be good. but i figure somebody here must have this same problem. is there an otc allergy medicine that will help me? something is blooming that doesnt agree with my sinuses, and i would like some way to deal with it that doesnt involve a doctor visit. cant be the only one with this problem? sitting inside when i should be out in the hills glassing and looking for sign is not acceptable to me, but neither is making a huge racket where i plan on killing an elk.

I too can get those allergy attacks as you describe, some years worse than others. I've found just about any allergy medicine on the market helps curb my attacks pretty good! Funny thing is some years I don't get them at all & others lookout, my eyes are tearing up so bad it's horrible! This year wasn't too bad so far!

I kinda had the same problem. I now this is hard to believe but I had a sneezing fit 15 -20 in a row. Next thing I know I am being taken to the hospital. Had a stroke. Got the medicine in time and got released in 3 days. Basically I'm fine. No problems, just get a little tired now and then. Go to a doc and tell them whats going on and they can take care of the problems. The price you pay for a visit is cheap compared to what it might cost later. You don't want to know what my bill's look like. My sinus problems was part of triggered the stroke.

I had terrible allergies growing up. I'm hoping that now I'm growing out of it. Haven't had much this spring/summer at all. Had 3 days where I wasn't sure if it was allergies or some kind of cold and then it was gone. Maybe my throat a little scratchy some mornings but thats it. Like Paul, it might just be a year where my sinuses don't act up and next year I'll be right back to sneezing like a maniac.

im trying some otc stuff, but seems to be making me really tired. of course i am prone to mid day naps in the woods, but this seems a bit more pronounced. switched brands today, hopefully it will work. dont want some pollen in the air keeping me from scouting

24hr Claritin D. Best stuff out there. I have super bad allergies during spring and it is the only medication that will work, other than the shots. I assume you live in Washington, you will just need to show the pharmacist your DL.

My daughter uses Claritian.
Last season I developed some problems: 56 years old and boom: nose started flowing a few barely helped.
A neighbor he is a doc , he uses Zertec. I tried, it seems to help me more than the others
