The Overwhelming Anxiety . . .

Postby LckyTylr » 07 02, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Anybody else get ants in their pants at work . . . sometimes, when there's a short pause at work and I don't immediately need to dedicate my mind to a task, I start to hear bugles. I'll start squeaking out cow calls or whistling bugles in response. My coworkers think I'm having some kind of seizure, but I'm just so excited for elk season to get here. My level of anxiousness to be in the Elk Woods is higher than it's ever been . . . 2 Months!!!

Anybody else find it hard to contain themselves. I swear, one of these days my Project Manager is going to walk into my office and find me on the floor raking my antlers on the chair.

Man you got it bad, you'd better stay away from our July 14th get together because it isn't going to get any better! (grin)

I always start focusing on it more and more. Planning, checking out gear, shooting more, and calling. I really don't get anxious until we buy food for the trip.

yes sir.....been there many times myself. Looking back I have realized all of that anxiety and worry is counter productive on all aspects of our life. If we let our mind become so wrapped around the axle on the subject, it can even affect the moment of truth when it come to pass. For our anxieties and fears will take control of the mind because we have trained our mind to let that anxiety rule us. All of the preparation and training, calling practice, elknut playbook keys when you get in close, and finally executing a good shot can be lost just when you need it most. You will not have a clear mind to think and concentrate like you have prepared. So my word of encouragement is to put away the worry, anxiety and fear. The preparation and training has already made you a champion. A champion is already confident in his skills and can wait patiently for his time;............ for there is an appointed time for everything and every event under heaven

I think about ELK allot myself however make sure to not over hype yourself and get into a tough hunt and be let down when your not seeing ELK as often as you dreamed.

I am always hunting or thinking about it. Fortunately I am retired so the only one to question my state of mind is my wife, and she just accepts the addiction.

Every night after prayers I think how will the elk come into this new location, Then I visualize the draw, aim, and release, then fall asleep to sweet dreams

I am more excited than I have ever been for hunting season. Most of that is because I just moved back to Colorado and have been enjoying all of the outdoor activities again. This will be my first season after moving back home which makes it that much sweeter. Every day on my drive to work I look at the mountains and think of all the fun I am going to have in September. I get to head up to my hunting spot to scout, camp and fish this summer, so that will be fun too.

You may want to listen to Paul, if you think you're fired up now, wait till after the seminar.

I just try to stick to the plan that i made years ago now. Do somthing every day to make yourself a better elk hunter. Shoot, PT, scout, call, plan etc. Even a bad workout is still way better than no workout. This helps keep the anticipation of the coming season at bay. However, i tend to get nervous when my work schedule threatens to cut into the September festivities. So far so good for this year.

I'm right there with you.

It's a wonder I get anything done at work. I'm either reading forums, planning, gear, maps, videos.

Yeah, I drive my self bonkers trying to decide which drainage/ridge/trailhead to concentrate on first this season. So many options, so little time!
