Sweet! They look determined to finish this hike. Very cool you're taking your boys to scout with you. I'm sure you already know this but let "them" spot the elk, help decide the next day's scouting adventure, get that evening fire going, and if you're dropping some trail cams, let them place them if they hike that far in with you. Those memories last a lifetime, I know.

Awesome! I have a 3 year old that I can't wait to be able to take me on ling hikes. He loves going and playing in the woods with me while I hang cams and stands, or trim shooting lanes for whitetails, but the longest walk we ever will have is 1 mile round trip. Keep it up! Those boys will never remember their best X-box game, but they'll never forget trips like those!

Yes sir, good stuff, believe it or not I remember when my 2 boys were that young! (grin) I did the same thing you are are now, it's good for the whole family, you get to have a workout & the boys are doing what their hero (Their Dad) is doing too! Keep up the good work!

the closer boy is 7, he is the pokey one and whines easily when he is tired.... but he really wants to go on the scout trip. so I am getting him in shape. I told him what we are planning on doing and he needs to pass some tests. surprisingly he was eager for the challenge. also gives me a reason to get out with the pack. the farther boy will be 6 in a couple of weeks. he is a very determined little bugger! he can and wants to follow me anywhere. he will probably be my first elk partner. he has stalked many turkeys with me. he hiked with me up some steep mtns in Colorado with no complaints two years ago when he was 4. he was practicing with me with his brave bow the other day, hit the block target almost every time at 10 yards, that was with no sights. you should see the concentration in his eyes....
