DIY Archery Target?

Does anybody make their own targets? These $100+ targets last a year or so, but that's it. I'm sure we can do better... I'd prefer one that can handle both field points and broadheads.

Of course, time is money...but if you had a little time to invest, you could make some pretty cool targets!

Filled it with old clothes...a ton of old clothes. Been working great so far. The arrows penetrate about 6 inches or so and you can pull them out with two fingers. Should last many years. I'll try to get some pics of it when I get home and post them up here.

I made my target from carpet . less than $10.00 some scrap metal, ready-rod and some wire for the welder Ive been shooting the target for 5 years.
My only mistake I wish I would have made it larger.
I added 6 inches to the the top this year Pic are from the week I made the taget

Lefty: We made almost the same target. we used cardboard and 4 threaded rod and 4 1x1 used the threaded rod to smash the cardboard. Cons: it is very heavy and you have to store inside and would not shot broadhead at it. the pros: as the cardboard ware out just tighten the nut up and it smashes together for loner life. mine is 15 year old and 1000's of arrows

This is my version of a bag target. A canvas quarter game bag and plastic wrap from Lowe's.

It works great for field points but not for broadheads. use paint to add dots of whatever size you prefer. My center dot is for my 80 and 90 yard shots.

Dont need to worry about carpet in the rain. I did change my sprinkler head at that end of the yard. The arrows come out better when wet,.. and the sound of an arrow hitting the target sound a whole like the sound of hitting an elk In the summer Im shooting 200-300 arrows a week,
I paint the dots also. when the paint is gone its time to move the dot. I did tighen up the ready-rod this spring when I turned my bow to 60. I wouldnt mind having a Block for on trips but the carpet works great, no matter the wind it stays put

Built one of those "lifetime targets" off of archery talk last winter. No passthroughs yet with lots of shooting of field pionts.
Can't think of a cheap broadhead target though. A few years ago i baught a Reinhart 18 spot target that was guranteed for one year. Shot at it daily and succesfuly shot out all 18 bullseyes but it took lots of broadheads to chew through those spots. I sent them a picture of it and they sent me a new one.

I made this three years ago for camp practice. So far it has held up extremely well, with both broad heads and field points. Easy to make, less than $75.00, less if you have any foam laying around. Hope this helps.
