Cold shot #1

When hunting, you will not get to shoot 15 arrows to warm up before shooting at your elk. So let's shoot one arrow, without a warmup at varying distances and conditions. You can report your success or even snap a picture and post your results. This one is motivated by another thread. Start a new thread for each challenging shot situation.

First shot: 35 yards, standing, field point. Hold at full draw for 60 seconds minimum before shooting.

Mine should make you feel comfortable posting yours bc mine is horrible. 15mph cross wind added to the level of difficulty and that was a long minute.

Great idea! I posted the other thread hoping to get others to think about this, you took it to another level. You have called in a bull you want to shoot, he goes behind cover, you draw, and he stops right there. If you let down, and he takes one step, he might see movement. I would rather be able to hold my draw,. and when he steps out execute the shot. I routinely practice this to increase how long I can hold and shoot. Hopefully others will follow and be more prepared, if the scenario above presents itself.

Been doing similar for years, leave my bow in the yard, every so often grab an arrow and send it, varying yardages, angles, sitting, kneeling!

Not as technically adept as several of you so no pictures. However, try the minute or two minute, but with a diaphragm or what ever call you use to stop one and at a minute, make your stopping mew and shoot within 3 seconds. Makes a difference when you have to refocus on the target quickly.

Welka, and everybody else.... come up with some new cold shots and post them up for everyone to try. I like the call idea. We did a bunch of these last year and it is fun. I've got a few more in mind too.

Well I tried the shot yesterday morning
I ddint think I could really hold for a minute so I stepped up and shot at 17.
At 15 seconds I had my doubts about holding that llong.
Twice the string broke from my cheek. At 55 secounds I focused; at 60 the arrow flew true. I was very surprise I could make the shot happen

I didn't have my phone on me so didn't get a picture, but I darn near missed the dang target!! Holding back wasn't a problem and I didn't feel that tired, but the wind was so strong it was hard to stand, let alone shoot a bow! I hit about 12" to the right (downwind) of the bulls eye. There is no way I would have actually shot at an elk in those conditions, though. I was insanely windy. I'll try again when it's a bit calmer.

Sounds like a good excuse, huh??

I practice holding at full draw frequently. It'll probably be my best arrow of the day.

I've noticed while practice shooting this year that the draw holds that break away slightly and have to be slightly re-drawn back to anchor point almost always end up being good shots. It seems having to refocus the pin increases my concentration and the shot is true. There's a lesson in this . . .somewhere.
