Idaho Hunt Opportunity

Postby WapitiTalk1 » 06 15, 2014 •  [Post 1]

OK, I was fishing on my September Elk thread ;). I'm scouting and planning on hunting a new area in ID this year and am poking around to see if anybody is interested in joining me. I have hunted in the Gem State, the last two weeks of Elktember, for the past two years and will do so again this year. Shawn (Washington Wapti) was gonna make the trek with me but work conflicts have stifled his plans (really stinks as I was looking forward to pulling a stinky, PO'ed bull right over the top of him). If anybody can swing that kind of time off and is serious about joining an old Elknut in pursuit of wapiti, contact me. Not promising anything, but chances are you'll have "opportunities". RJ

Hey Phantom,

Approximately which part of the state are you planning on hunting. I might be interested.

Sounds like a great hunt and learning opportunity. If I didn't have set plans I would head to Idaho and join you on the hunt. Already bought the MT tag.

Thank you to those who contacted me! It looks like elkonthebrain (Ed) will be joining me the last two weeks of SEP on my ID hunt this year. I'll be going to a new area this year and am doing some serious remote scouting at this point. The plan as of today is to make a trek over to the new area at some point this summer to put BOG and see who's home ;)

Dang!!!

I'm . . . hours behind the 8 ball. I'm looking for new stomping grounds in Idaho this year as well. I probably can't promise the last two weeks . . . as I drew a Wyoming tag this year and I'll be hunting Archery and Rifle over there . . . Idaho is going to take a bit of a backseat this year.

A few pointer when hunting with Rory: bring ear plugs, check pack for rocks actually always keep your pack in your vision even while sleeping, while hiking watch for soft mushy flying rocks that smell musky, be on alert for a big pile of cat poop within 40 yards of camp, do not bring the good sipping whiskey, and get ready to have a deer hanging out around his tent nightly.

:). You'll have a great time and couldn't be going out with a better guy. He's a great guy to hunt with, seriously though being ear plugs and watch out for Dora the deer (she seems to always find him).

Almost all true. Earplugs are a must as I'm pretty sure a guy could hear Dotman and DirtyErn snoring from several states away; an extra rock or two in your buddies pack builds character; big piles of ML poop (by bent over trees) within 40 yards of camp may not be what it seems; if a hunting partner passes by any fresh elkduds, while on the lead on the trail, and does not point out said fresh duds, will be pelted in the back of the head with them (doesn't everybody follow this protocol :? ...); noctural mule deer does do seem to find me and my tent attractive/don't know why; but, to not bring good sipping whiskey to camp may be grounds for an immediate and harsh reprimand... don't listen to that tip :).
