Unit 44 Colorado

Postby razorback » 06 13, 2014 •  [Post 1]

I have a plan and location for unit 44 in Colorado. In case it falls through or should be too crowded, does anyone have suggestions or locations for good remote locations in Unit 44?

I am going to get there on 28 or 29 August to be somewhere in my spot for opening morning. I plan to hunt about 2 weeks or longer.

Not many guys hunt the first week, hike about a mile from the road an you should be alright, but depends where you are going could be bad cause of hikers and horseback riders or cattle.

About what elevation do you find elk at that time of year?

I have hunted 44 for the last 2 years. with both bow and muzzle. with the bow, it was the last week of the season. saw two people the entire 9 days. there was a handful more during last years muzzle trip. both years were at the same time of the month somewhere around the 12th-21st. elk were between 8-10k in elevation. pm me if you want..... also there are campers and hikers in this area, but I have never seen them off of the roads. no cows in my particular drainage, but there are a mile or away.
