Pack Straps

Whats the best way to secure extra strap length on packs? Especially big packs that collapse into daypack mode?

I have never given this much thought. I would think you would want them inside if you are going through much brush. If you are in more open country, then they could be secured tight to the outside. Still you would not want them flopping around. I would think you would leave the straps, when you drop off the cargo you were freighting in. You do not want to carry anything in the day pack that is not going to be used during your time out hunting.
Personally I carry some extra cord/baling twine in my pack to use as straps. I takes up almost no space and the weight is insignificant.

I'm talking about the straps the pack comes with. They are extra long to accommodate the expanded pack load, but when the pack is compressed into daypack mode the are long and dangling for and aft. Can't cut em off.

I have two sets on my pack. I cinch the straps to where I want them. The bottom pair I tie together in a a square knot, the top sides get to just dangle out there

my pack came with a length of Velcro sewed on at a 90 degree angle. so all i have to do is roll the extra length up and wrap the Velcro around it. very handy!

Mine dangle and it doesn't bother me at all..... so I'm no help and just like to see my name in your thread apparently.

I'll use some rubber bands for that but they are easy to lose and forget about so bring a few extra.

They have never been an issue for me but you have three simple solutions - web dominator or double sides Velcro cut to the length you prefer. The third solution is the cheapest as you just tuck them in where you can.

Milspec Monkey sells both and they are relatively cheap. Mystery Ranch sells a precut double sides Velcro pack for $5.

There are some other solutions, sometimes I simply tie the excess up loosely . Another option is to put an extra matching buckle on the excess and buckle it elsewhere.

There are various keeper solutions , most if the time I think the fix is worse than the problem. The web dominators are the nicest , but overly bulky IMO.
