Its been a long long time since Ive bought a set, Im looking at getting them for my trip out to Montana this fall, can anyone recommend any? something easy to put on in 2 feet of snow, and that stay on.

I have some Army surplus ladder style chains.
They are made for larger tires; then I shortened them to fit my pickup tires.
My father-in -law calls them log-cutters, because they will grind down a log to get over it
Make sure you know how to put them on and have chain-tighteners if you need them. a large channel lock style pliers can really be helpful putting on some chains
Be careful, many newer pickup have stuff in the way and chains can do a lot of damage, fit then to your tires and cut off the excess
Do not waste your money on cable chains

Hey, a guy can dream can't he lol. I'm looking into the clearance, my truck has a leveling kit and over sized tires so it's a concern.

Both my brothers 2010 dodge and my father in laws 2010 chevy manuals said no chains due to clearance issues. They were both stock trucks. They just don't make them like they use to. I believe some guys run spacers to move the wheel out and free up the room for the chains.

Carry chains & don't worry about the fine line notes! You can put chains on about any car out there more or less a truck! I've installed chains on countless cars & trucks over the years, you can chain up nearly anything when it's necessary! Find a set on ebay that will fit your tire size & carry the rubber tighteners & you'll be ready for the unexpected! When conditions require chains or you are stuck no warranty is worth a hoot if you can't get out!

A guy I work with used to drive highway plow trucks in Idaho. He recommend V-bar chains for hunting. I'm planning on buying a set of these for the front axle of my truck.

I took a set of my dad semi chains fit 11r24.5 with the cam locks, jacked up my truck for them so I had 2 links hanging, put em on an then I tighten the cam locks boom, haven't used a set of bungies since. With cam locks you can get chains tight. I'm a tire tech near vail pass and everyonce in a while we get a call to put on someone's chains. I've gotten calls that the driver couldn't get them off. But I liked chains tight. Then I got real creative with my chains and added another cross chain between each one. There some grabbin son of a guns....

Unless you are driving a Mustang, Camaro, or similar, your vehicle can be chained up. The Forest Service nearly always carried chains in all of their vehicles when winter driving in snow country was a possibility. I would recommend a good set of regular chain linked tire chains with a folding clasp on one side. Make sure they fit, and will go on reasonably easy before you leave home. It is a little late to experiment, and exchange them, when you are out stuck in two feet of snow.

If near a compressor reduce the tire pressure , then fill the tire back up

With chains make sure they fit correctly, Ive seen some real disasters

I like the ones with the cam that snugs them up after they are on. More importantly... ice is worse than snow. Make sure you get chains with cleats on them and not just the smooth links.

If you really want some good chains that will last even if ur on hard dirt roads and grip really well purchase mud service square link alloy chains. I've seen guys run them for a long long long time on dry pavement before they finally broke. V bars are also nice unless ur on hard surface they get annoying quick,

I think v-bars and cleats are the same thing. Nothing beats them on ice. Yes they are rough on hard roads but most chains are anyway. Just looking at them you can see what a difference they will make.

I have some cable chains for emergency use in the car. I hope I never need them. If you need good chains, that will hold up, then the ones Indian Summer has pictured are the best available and are the best value over time. I guess the cheapies are ok for a short while. You can sometimes pick up a set, free along the highway, where they came off, and were left by an earlier motorist. It is hard to beat free, unless they are really important when you need them.

Those are the style I had purchased in the pasts, might have a line on 2 sets of them for cheap.............If they fit my tires.
