Archery Only OTC hunts

So I'm in the situation where I can't get leave prior to Oct 1 and thus I didn't put in for any draw.

I'm zeroing in on idahos November-December OTC archery only hunts.

Thoughts and other directions to consider?

I just want to see elk. A trophy would be great but I want meat more than a trophy.

It sounds like Idaho may be a good option for you. Oregon has gone to all draw for its late season cow hunts. They are a low percentage opportunity unless you are very familiar with the hunt area or have special permission to hunt some private land that has elk.

Bow only huh? You can buy a Montana general elk license all summer long good for either sex in units that permit cow hunting. You could hunt bow until October 19th. Gun starts October 25th and runs until November 30th. Feel free to post or PM any questions if you're interested.

Montana was the other option!

I just haven't researched units enough to know yet. I've done a lot of fly fishing in both states but no hunting.

I'm off to our friend google and will surely have questions.

So am I right to assume there are only 4 units that can be hunted on the general tag?
Seems inaccurate but that's what this sheet of statistics is making me infer.

So whats the consensus on Idaho nov/dec vs Montana oct 4-19 for archery?
Tactics consideration?
