Which arrow?

I am a Midwestern whitetail hunter and Am going to Colorado this September elk hunting, i have 2 different arrows to choose from, fmj at 470 grain going 278 fps and a all carbon at 384 grain going 303 fps. Both shoot good for me, is it worth using the lighter one for yardage misjudgment or stick with the heavy penetrator.

I have killed more than a few elk with arrows lighter than your lightest one, but I would still recommend the heavier one. I shoot 425 grain arrows now. They seem to be a good compromise. You can suffer some loss of penetration with your light arrows if your shot placement is not real good. The light arrow will also lose energy quicker over longer distances. I did some experimenting with a 500 grain arrow and a 350 grain arrow. The 500 grain arrow had more residual energy at 40 yards than the 350 grain arrow had when it left the bow.

I'd go with the heavier arrow too.

I shoot the FMJ's so that is what I swould go with...I like the heavier arrow.,,,more KE

Another vote for the heavy arrow, especially with the speed you are getting.
