I shoot an Elite Answer at about 63lbs. CE Piledriver arrows with a 125 grn Slick Trick Standard in front. Total arrow weight 465 grns. Can't say how it performs on elk, though, because I've yet to shoot my first. This will be the year, though, no doubt!

My rifle is a Tikka T3 Lite in 270 WSM shooting Barnes 130 grn TTSX handloads. Have taken a bunch of whitetails, a muley, a moose, and a wolf with this gun. I'm starting to enjoy using the bow more, though.

I'm a southpaw . . . Bowtech Vital Impact for lefties, 66/67#. It is a 60# bow but I squeezed another 6 or 7 lbs out of it. Cabela's Stalker Extreme or Beaman ICS arrows (same shaft) with a 100 grain NAP Thunderhead Broadhead. One day I'll updgrade, but I love this bow.

But in the fast paced world of market driven research and development... if it ain't broke they still have to fix it ya know. I love mine and until they make one that is guaranteed to hit the X every time I won't be making any changes.

Indian Summer, I had a SWXT, great bow, I traded it when I switched over to Elite. Elites are two cam but feel a lot like a SB, smooth draw, easy to shoot. I think the SB was Mathews best and I owned a lot of them. Things haven't changed much in the archery world, keep your SB, it can do everything any new bow can do.

Hey Paul, I was in a pro shop yesterday and the owner said he went from Hoyt to an energy 32 and loves it! The shop handles both together with Mathews. Besides those Elites are easier to draw for you old guys!

Trying to make this my first year elk hunting:

Archery: Carbon Spyder 34, 71lbs, 28.5" Draw. Arrow will likely be GT 7595 with VPA 125 grain heads (Still getting the bow set up and tuned now)

Not sure if I have any elk rifle hunts in my near future, but have a Browning X-Bolt in .270 WSM and a Shilen-Barreled Remington 700 in 7mm STW to choose from if/when I do.

I love my Switchback! My son is shooting a Switchback XT and also loves his.

My dad and I both are still shooting our Switchback XTs. They continue to hit the x and are just as good today as when we bought them new in 2006. I nearly went for the Creed XS this year but dang my SBXT is still shooting too good to put down.

Still trying to decide on shafts and broadheads.
For broadheads I am thinking about the QAD Exodus or Ulmer Edge.
Someone suggested since this is my first year with a bow and that the Pulse has such a short brace height that I should go with the Ulmer Edge. Their reasoning was that it would be much easier to tune and shoot.
Anyone care to comment on that advice?

Read this and decide for yourself. Due to budget constraints, I will be using Slick Tricks for they fly very well.

Great read. Thanks for passing that on. Looks like BH will not make much difference with accuracy. How might it affect things with extra layers on when things get cold. Some folks said that sleeves can be an issue with a shorter BH.
