bugles calls

Postby Fridaythe13th » 05 15, 2014 •  [Post 1]

I have a bugle call from Wayne Carlton that I paid a buck for it sounds like plastic or tubey (spelling)?. I also have a Primos terminator but would like to be more versatile in my calling. What do you use for a good bugle call. I see the sponsor have bugle calls. Are they any good? and Why? What is your favorite mouth to go with it?
Thank you
Eric

I used an older "large bore" Carlton tube for many years. I now use, and really like, the Chuckler EL. Great resonance and tone, and, much more compact than my old elephant tube ;) Mouth diaphrams? I use Berry doubles and have for many years, but, they are harder to use than many of the reeds on the market. I've tried and really like the Glacier Country Hunting Call diaphrams (Troy's Secret Weapon and Orange Enrager). Both area easy to use, and, one can easily get all the tones needed. I have a handfull of mouth reeds from Wapiti River Outdoors but can't try them (they are donations for prizes for the elk calling contest), but, I hear folks realy like them also. The Bugling Bull diaphrams are well liked by many hunters also.

Sorry, rambling a bit. If I were to recommend a set of calls for a guy/gal who wants to up their game from using an internal reed tube, and, be able to make all the necessary noises, I'd say get an Elknut Chuckler EL, a few GCHC Orange Enragers, and an external reed cow call to mix things up. Just my .02.

I have a Carlton tube and wrapped it in layers of camo hockey tape. It went from plastic-y to awesome in $3.00 and 15 minutes.
