What have you found to be the best socks? Do you use a liner sock?

I have been using a thin poly liner sock and regular light wool outer socks. This combo has worked pretty well, just looking for something that might be better.

I have never used smart wool, but am thinking about it for this year.

I have had great results with smart wool. I do not wear liners with them.

Yep, smart wool here too, from camofire! I have both light & heavy ones. I prefer the heavy ones best & they are not to warm or thick in my boots!

Not worth the money IMO. I bought some of the Smartwool socks and didn't care for the price, though they worked well. I found some merino wool socks at Sam's Club a couple years ago, $15 for a package of three. I bought a package to try and there is no difference between them and my Smartwool stuff. I won't spend the money on the more expensive brands again. I went back and bought several packages of them.

Smartwool makes socks from Merino wool. There are other companies that do as well, but Smartwool is one of the best. I also like point6. They are made by the people who originally started Smartwool. I think both companies make higher quality wool products than just about anyone except Icebreaker.

I tried Smartwool but actually liked Carhartt Arctic Wool socks the best for early season! It seems like they would be too hot but I found them to be quite the opposite! Super cushion and breathed very well surprisingly. Smartwool almost felt slimy to me when they got wet.

I will second the cabelas ingenious. Best hiker and active hunter socks I have ever used.

Love the poly liners with merino wool socks. Wick moister, and, for me anyway....seem to keep the main socks from sliding down. Just ny .02.

had several darn toughs, liked them but they did wear holes. never pursued warranty. went with thick 'hiking' smartwools, they held up great! they fill my needs and are extremely comfortable...

i have some Point6 socks. where/when i got them, i dont even remember. i do know i've owned them long enough..before i even knew what a "merino" was. (still not so clear)
they have been with me on every hike for years. no holes, no tears. great sock. i go liner-less.
