Solo or Pack of Wolves?

How will be hunting this 2014 elk season? As a solo elk slayer or with a friend or friends (pack of wolves). Which do you prefer?

A pack of 6 including myself. I don't know if that is good or not. That gives us a reason to have a camp fire and BS about the days events and plan the next day. But it might hurt us a little because, one might not hunt has hard as a solo hunter. because of the camp fire BS reasons.

Camp may look like a wolf pack, but I usually hunt alone. If I am calling, then It is good to have a partner, but even there I am comfortable alone.

It's looking like I'll be going solo for the first time. I usually hunt with one or more others.

I have invites out to some wolf cubs. Whether they make it out of the den to hunt or not, I will be solo @ least some of the time. With locator beacon.

I don't know allot of folks who ELK hunt. I lost my Dad as a hunting partner a few years back and so far the partners I have had are lazy and unreliable. I think I would enjoy hunting as a team with someone in the future, until then it's a much preferred solo.

Iv'e done both but lost all of my hunting pack about 10 years ago due to illness and moving away for jobs but we hunted alot solo unless one of us found a good herd then we would all close in. I have hunted mostly solo since then makes for a boring camp fire. My son is now wanting to hunt so we had a good 10 days last year got close but couldnt close the deal. he got hooked so now im back to a small pack

Undcided at this juncture. It will either be a pack full time, or solo part time with a few cubs in tow the other part.

Small pack of my son and myself. Hunted 2 weeks last year with a friend. In the woods at 5AM and back to camp at 9PM every day.

Good question that has me thinking...

I will be heading back to MT with my dad and there's a good chance my brother-in-law will be joining us now. This would be his first time in the mountains and our second year out there. This post has me wondering how we should hunt (split up and search, spot and stalk together, etc.) I'll start a new thread to see how others might hunt with a party of 3.

Don't know yet. If 3 of us draw it will be a small pack of very hungry wolves. If I draw my second choice or go OTC, it will be as a hungry lone wolf.

If you hunt in a pack, just be sure your pack hunts the same way. I was hunting with a pack of three last year and did not have much success. We each had our own style of hunting and did not mesh well as a pack. We each had more success and close calls on our own.

My dad will be with me the first 10 days this year, and my buddy and his fiance the last 7 days plus a weekend or two. All other times I will be at camp solo. The first 10 days with my dad, we will be hunting tree stands so yes folks in camp but going out solo each day. The last 7 days with my buddy, we will run and gun together.

I like both, dependent upon the elk-gettin' situation. I usually get 2-5 days jump on my brother since he can't get the time off. It ends up a little solo, a little hunting together. My time in the woods is, in part, to recharge. So, I've definitely come to like mixing it up. It's funny because with the exception of one situation, all the times I've had close encounters, have always been when I'm solo. Actually having a caller/shooter team set-up this year is gonna be sweet!

Not hunting Elk this year as I burned up all my leave due to health issues. Planning a small pack hunt, two to for hunters for next year.

It will all depend on my dad's mobility. we may start as a pack but my guess is after a day or two I will be solo.

Hoping that 2 or 3 of us draw a tag in the same 1st choice unit. If not and I draw my second choice more than likely solo. If I don't draw that I'm hoping to talk GS into my favorite OTC unit. So it could be a small pack of hungry wolves or a lone wolf. C'mon May 30

There will be three of us. I hunt by myself about 25% of the time and 75% of the time with one or both of my buddies.

Myself (alpha male) and a beta buddy.

He's never hunted Wyoming before. A trip or two in the past elsewhere but he is elkless so far. I plan to change that for him right here and now! Hopefully with a bull but a cow at the very least before it's all over.

Most likely we'll hunt together a bit but mostly solo by day.

Mostly depends on whether my brothers time off from work meshes with mine and to some extent on the elk themselves. If he can't hunt when I can, then I'm solo. When we do get to camp together we hunt together for the caller/shooter aspect. But if we aren't having any luck finding the elk, then we will split up and each of us will hunt solo to cover more ground to try and locate them. Once elk are located we're back to hunting together again.
