any info on Valles Caldera Preserve

Postby dapper » 04 24, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Hello
I drew an archery tag for the Valles Caldera Preserve in New Mexico. I was wondering if any of you have hunted there and if there is any information you'd be willing to share. What to expect? How it generally plays out? What the terrain is like? What you did or wish you'd done to make the hunt more enjoyable? Any information at all would be greatly appreciated. My son will be my guest, will call for me, if that is allowed.

Thanks for any input

Get in early. Take your time and you'll do better than I.
They will piss you off by almost running you off the road after shooting hours

If you come up short with the necessary hunting partner, just give me a call.
In that place, It would be a heck of a trip just to cook, camp out, call one in for you, and pack it out.

I'll keep that in mind Easeup! My son will go as my guest/caller unless he draws a bighorn or mountain goat tag in Montana. His chances of that are about as slim as me drawing the valles caldera tag. I tease him If I don't get an elk I'll blame it on his calling.
