Ahh, something new Watch the clip and tell us what you see and hear going on. What type of bugles are you hearing? What is the bull you can see doing? Any thoughts onthe the unseen bull?

Thanks RJ. It looks like the herd bull is directing his cows and running off a smaller bull. All just a matter of a day's work.

Thats what I was thinking,A herd bull gather up his cows and dealing with an intruder bull at the same time.I think we refer to it as multi tasking.

Any other thoughts? How we read a situation and react by various means leads to our success and perhaps failures in these impromptu, spur of the moment times in the elk woods.

Advertising bugles, AKA lip bawls
2nd to last was round up bugle.
Scent checking cows but not getting respect!

Few chuckles to gather the ladies and move them on out from other bulls.
I think most of the bugles from the "herd bull" were for the ladies. When the intruder got closer he was more urgent, demanding. He turned and faced the competitor, or at least the little guy thought he was, head on to run him off. Others in the background were locators.

To challenge this guy could be hard with so much open country. Wind in your favor maybe sneaking (fast pace) and and breaking up the cows with a gathering scream yourself could result in a really close encounter for the herd bull.
Those other bugles, bulls, would sure come in nice and silent to some sweet talking cow sounds.
Very good situation to be in but the cover makes your next move difficult with so many eyes.

This sounds right on to me. The fact that the herd bull came back some to send a message to the satellite says that you might get him to come into shooting range if you can get close enough. Or, if you would be satisfied with a satellite, just follow the herd and don't say a thing.

I heard lip bawls, so..... I heard a few challenge bugles. I was confused as it also looked like he was scent checking his gals at the same time. I can see, based on others, that he was also rounding them up to head out of town.... that was a good vid to get me pumped up!

Here's an angle for consideration. The bull in the distance is advertising himself and his elkhood which is really pissing off the bull with his few cows in the white tree flat. This youngster is pretty darn proud of his small group of cows and has made the immediate decision to take his toys and leave vs competing with the uphill intruder. This small herd bull is doing everything in his power to pick em up and move em out . Perhaps his bugles are not completely directed back at the intruder higher up on the hillside to the left, but, as much towards his cows? He's screaming at them in an urgent manner to get them on their way. So, is the herd bull screaming at his cows, responding to the intruder with a challenge/warning bugle(s), or both? Just a thought.
