"X" Marks the Spot 2014 - Episode 1

Geesh, lost track of the number so we'll start over In light of Toby's recent frontal shot thread, and, easeup telling me he would grind me up for dog chow if I didn't get a new shot thread going, I thought I'd start with this one. You're in a ground blind at the edge of this large meadow in AZ....... Bullwinkle has a few cows with him but they are looking at the ground, and the big cheese doesn't know you're in the country. Wind is blowing ever so slightly into your snout. The big guy is warning some upstart bull hundreds of yards into the timber behind you. You come to full draw and...............

At 24 yards he's getting it. I wouldn't hesitate.

24 yards is pushing it for me on this shot. But this is where I would aim if he were closer.

Waiting...if I'm taking afrontal shot it's with a bull that is getting ansy and about to take off under 20 yards and not going offering anything better. This guy is preoccupied and going to follow the closest cow hopefully giving a broadside shot any second.

+2 Wind in my face. No hurry & I'm not going to let his size influence my decision. He's most likely not coming toward me if his cows don't. Instead he will eventually turn toward them and I'll run one through the boilermaker for and easy 24 yard double lunger and he will drop in sight.

Along the crease....
I try not to go by the brown to tan coloring. I look at the joint (or front of <) of the front shoulder. Thats the low point of the crease and go up from there. I have heard others describe it as the shirt pocket.

+1 - The one frontal shot I've taken (successful), the bull came into our calling and I couldn't be sure I'd ever get a broadside shot. In this case, he doesn't know I'm there and this shot is on fringe of my comfort zone for a frontal. He's not likely to be leaving his cows, so I'll wait for him to turn and have the Bullwinkle for dinner!
