Wyoming vs Colorado Archery Elk Hunting

I have been Elk Hunting in Colorado with a bow for several years and now I am going to try Wyoming. For those of you that have hunted both states, I am curious if you have a preference and why.

I'd like to follow this as I have pretty much the same goals as JES_wis. Except I want to add black bear to mine as well as elk.

Elk hunting has generally been much better for me in WY, bigger bulls and less pressure. Colorado is harder to escape the crowds but can be awesome. Colorado is far and away the better place to kill a bear, some otc bear units that are loaded with both elk and bears.

I haven't looked at Wyoming too hard, except for the big horns. are there units that a drawable on a first time application or even otc?

Yes. A "General Elk" comes in two flavors. The one can be drawn, or maybe I should say bought by shelling out some bucks. The "Regular Elk" requires one point and costs just under $600. But if you really really want to hunt WY you can pay double and almost guarantee it. It used to be a for sure but the last few years a few unlucky souls have not drawn. A few.

To answer your anasked question.. yes, there are lots of quality areas you can hunt on the General Elk license. I'll add this: I pay for the higher cost license and no.. I wouldn't do that if I didn't think I was going to head home with a bull.

thanks joe. like I said, I haven't researched Wyoming that much yet. I have a buddy who has hunted western Wyoming and gave a couple spots, was just curious about Wyoming, since I have no plans to hunt it yet.
