I am curious how many of the camps' significant others are involved in elk hunting. If so were you a help in their conversion? Or just a bystander? What did you do that helped win them over?

My wife used to hunt w me for a few years. Some reasons she stopped: Hunting in monsoon rains and mud that pulled her boot off her foot. An uncontrolled atv ride she took off a sidehill trail, down 60 yards of sagebrush into a creek. Me strongly encouraging her to go so we could have another tag, when she really didn't want to. Assisting w gutting elk. I'm sure there are more reasons she would name. We both realized she enjoyed very little of it, and that made it less fun for me.

I have also met wives that really enjoy hunting w their husbands or w groups of women, which is impressive to me. More power to them.

My wife hasn't hunted much with me the past few years. But she has been out twice during the archery elk hunt.
She actually encourages me to hunt more for elk

My wife merely tolerates my love for elk hunting. She attempted to put an elk roast in the oven for me "once" years ago after I called her from work and asked her to (she doesn't like wild meat)..... The phone call came about mid afternoon with an "OMG, eeeewwwwww, it had a hair on it! She's never attempted to cook wild meat again. She's used to the drill and knows the preparation for next year begins the day after the current season ends. She does however, think it's creepy I communicate and talk elk hunting with folks on this forum, and, on the phone several times each week. Are you guys creepy?

She is attending the RMEF banquet with me this coming weekend. Even after 27 years of marriage, I think it's a small step forward

this yr will be my wifes first yr hunting elk. weve already got her bow all dialed in and she shooting great. really looking forward to trying to get her and my son there first elk. they will be hunting weekends mostly and I have the last 17 days straight to hunt. if my math is correct in only working 8 days of this yrs archery season

My Wife likes to Deer Hunt, but she won't shoot an Elk. She won't give me a reason for this and I don't pressure her. My main focus is Elk, so it's better for me to pursue them alone. I do enjoy having my Wife along in the Deer woods though. She's sneaky and never complains about how far I make her walk.

My wife has been pig hunting with me once. She loved it. We got into them the first night but no shot and never saw them again. She loves pig meat but isn't too excited about deer meat yet. She helps me process them and all and she thinks that's why she has a hard time eating it. But she wants to try for deer this year and agreed to learn calling elk to help me out. I could never ask for a better hunting partner than my best friend!!!

my wife has no interest in hunting but she does support my hunting and my ambition to bring my daughter up as a hunter. my wife does like the meat and doesn't mind preparing it either. I am grateful to have her.

My wife started bowhunting last year. the third night in the stand she turns and asks "How many pounds do I need to pull to elk hunt?"

In 2012 my wife killed her first elk. It was a VERY hard to draw tag and she killed an awesome bull. She may have decided to go out on top.. Even though she doesn't currently elk hunt with me or have any desire to at this point she is a big help in preparation and getting my meals ready. Bless her soul as she packs some of the tastiest meals that only need to reheat. I eat well at camp.

She tolerates my obsession for elk, but not without a comment here or there..

Nope not a chance.. She doesn't like it wont cook or eat it. (deer). She loves for me to hunt and is very supportive and loves for me to take the kids(18 and 15). The kids and I feast when she is out of town.

My wife loves getting out and hunting. She grew up rifle hunting and has taken quite a few elk. Two seasons ago I took her out for an evening bow hunt and she's been hooked on the idea ever since! She is very supportive of my obsession and is excited to get in on some calling set ups this season.

My wife semi enjoys setting game cameras and scouting. She would enjoy it a lot more if we used the stock for these endeavors. She wants nothing to do with elk camp during season, she says it's important for me to have my time, I don't complain. She does bring the kids up though on the last weekend to help take cameras down and camp.

Not mine. I am lucky she loves eating the stuff. She told me her role is to rush to the store to buy a chest freezer during my drive back from whereever. Elk meat is her favorite. I'm lucky they don't sell the stuff regularly.

If I draw unit 36 I hope to bring her. I'll rent a local cabin w a jacuzzi. Hah!

My wife went hunting with me a few times early on in our marriage. Over time we realized it is not something she really likes to do. She does accompany me on scouting trips in the summer and likes to be outdoors just not hunting. She is a great cook and makes some great venison roasts and duck jerky. We found a happy medium in our lives. She tolerates my obsession with hunting and participates in the things that she finds enjoyable. The rest of the year I try to do things to accomodate her.

Nope, my wife is wonderful but she was raised a city girl. Roughing it for her is a Courtyard Marriott instead of a full Marriott. She supports me doing it and that's fine by me. She did worry the entire time last year while I did an 8 day solo backpack hunt but we both survived.

Wife has zero interest in any sort of hunting or shooting.

This is not a problem for me and I actually prefer it this way.

My wife has hunted with me for the last 20+ years or so in CO and MT. She started out just going along and using a pair of binoculars. Then she started by doing some bird hunting then we got hear 270 since then she has harvest elk, deer (one of which was a 185 mule deer, a level to which I have not achieved yet…)and pronghorns. I couldn’t ask for a better hunting partner…our son does some hunting as well which makes for great family adventures…

Now, that's funny! Man, I miss these guys. I've seen this performance more than a few times. My fiance' doesn't care to shoot anything, but likes to come along on different hunts or scouting missions when she can. She's as outdoorsy as me and just likes to get out. She also loves the end result . . . the meat. She cooks most of the roasts and recipes that call for sliced or ground elk. Alot of times she improves upon some recipe that I try. I do the grilling and smoke the jerky, etc. It's a good division of labor. My brother, myself and a friend of ours do a lot meat swapping, so our families end up with some mix of deer, elk, grouse, side of beef, self-grown hogs, or whatever it may be. The only meat we really buy at the grocery store is chicken.

I actually got my wife to go duck hunting once. She enjoyed it mostly except for one duck was still flopping a bit after hitting the ground. She missed that in my rush to ring it's neck I popped it's head right off. Never been back out since. Two oldest daughters got to go pheasnat hunting this year, and all three girls do 3D shoots already. Mom gets invited each time, but no luck yet.

We had a woman in camp last year. One of my friends girlfriend. She hunted harder that some and not as hard as others. I received the cold shoulder from my wife for a few days after I posted pics on FB of the hunting crew. My wife wouldn't admit she was jealous, but I know my wife well enough to know she was extremely jealous.

My wife loves the outdoors but admits she could never shoot anything so she probably will never buy a tag. I've taken her shooting at the range a few times and she enjoyed that. It works well, she has come along to sit in my deer stand in the midwest a couple times and enjoyed spotting deer for me, and she has come along on a couple of elk bowhunts (combination family camping/hunting trips, nothing real serious). She never comes along when it's a serious elk hunting trip and that works for everyone. She also loves elk meat and we both prefer elk over beef any day so that's another win. If she ever wanted to buy a tag I'd be all for it, but we'd have to keep a balance of hunting together and me getting away with the boys every now and then. She's always very supportive of my hobby/addiction, if I ever have to limit my number of hunting trips in a year there's always a good reason why.

Absolutely my wife hunts just as hard if not harder than me !! Add to that she is my best friend and my best hunting partner period !! I get to call and shoot and she likes to film !! Perfect perfect perfect !! Now she even called in two elk all on her own last year for us !!

So this year I'll be out front shooting and she wants to call and film !

She also ask's me every year when she should book her holidays for when the elk are bugling the best. She's no dummy.

If any of you guys have bought elk calls in the past from Wapiti, you can thank my wife as I do all my sound testing on her ! She knows all the sounds elk make and knows the proper tones reeds should make.

You guys are simply missing out if your spouse isn't there enjoying the hunt !!
