WTB: hook style wrist release

Looking for a hook style or also called the stringloop style wrist release like the TruFire Hardcore or the Scott RHINO XT. I am not saying that it has to be these two brands or models but just for example of the style I am looking for.

I am a fan of the Carters. Quite a few great releases from them. That said, I can shoot well with just about anything with practice so its gonna be all about personal preference. Get out and shoot a few at the shop. Good luck

Have you shot one of these type of releases before? I shoot a Rhino XT. They are very very different than your standard trigger release. There is no creep in trigger but the trigger pull is very heavy, if you punch one of these they punish you, as in you'll miss a bag target at 40 yards. In the end they will make you a better shooter but take a lot of getting used to. I like the Rhino, though I haven't tried any other brand.

I have only shot a bow a few dozen times while shopping and at each shop they put a double caliper wrist release on me. Iike otcWill said I think that I will get accustom to whatever I get but I have heard so good things about these hook style releases which makes me want to go that way. The good things about the hook were less string wear vs a single or double caliper and that with practice you can get on your loop without looking. Are there some downsides to the hook that you guys have experienced or read about?

No cons IMO, especially if you are new to shooting. If you learn with a hook, you won't know any different.

I was playing with hardcore this weekend. It was definitely not interchangeable with my other caliper trufire edge. changed my anchorpoint enough I would have to change my drawlength a smidge. I have the ability to shoot 20 different releases and I would worry more about the crispness and pull length of the trigger before jaw style. To me the calipers that open when the trigger is pulled is just as handy as a hook style

Timberland, what was your take on the crispness and pull length of the hardcore? Since I have not shot any releases to a real degree and I don't have my bow yet I can get tuned to just about anything. With that in mind what would you recommend?

Crisp enough to scare a new shooter. I shoot a $120 timiny and its just as tight. Nice release for the $

Next time you're out bow shopping ask to shoot each bow with different releases to see what fits you the best. I personally like the Fuse clinch cft or Scotts littlegoose course I can adjust them to fit me just right that's just my 2 cents

I have been reading about trying to shoot with the trigger nestled into the second joint from the tip of your index finger and am wondering since I have a XL hand size if this will be an adjustment issue for some of these grips.
I would also appreciate any comments on this style of shooting a trigger wrist release.

spot on for triggering the release with the "meat" of your finger, not the tip. Fire by clenching that finger like making a fist.

This is the way to go, I shoot a Harcore Max, which has a lot of adjustability to not only fit your hand, but also for adjusting the trigger travel and tension. I hook my finger on the second joint and then try to use a little back tension to trigger it. The release can also be folded back and locked in an out of the way position until you are feat to shoot. I like this feature as a dangling release drives me nuts after a week or so of hiking the mountains.

One of the reasons I like my Scott. With a nylon connection system it is infinitely adjustable. I know other companies use these as well and would strongly recommend going with this type of system.

I currently shoot the itty bitty goose and am looking at the Wiseguy by Spott Hogg. Anyone have good/bad things about this release? I will get the NCS system like I have on my Scott to adjust for the second joint contact.
