Outfitting Your 4Wheeler

So there is a possibility I will be using my ATV this year in CO on ATV trails to access some remote areas if I draw my second choice. I will set up a base camp and use my ATV to haul my backcountry gear to a point at which I will put it on my back and hike in. Does anyone do this? Looking for tips on how to load the ATV efficiently.

Same as the fundamentals of loading a backpack... low and tight. My #1 suggestion would be when you have a load on a 4 wheeler do NOT get on sidehills. I've rolled mine down mountains 3 times. One time I knew it was a shaky spot so I got off and power walked it.... it rolled right over top of me. Hopefully your trail is a safe one.

Back when I had atvs, I bought a trailer for same from the classifieds. It was about 30" wide x 60" , had 2 motorcycle tires/wheels, shock absorbers, was made of steel mesh over angle steel frame. It weighed about 180#, easily hauled a whole elk, or a camp w wall tent, coolers, cots, etc. It sat on the same trailer as atv for transport.

I ATV a lot, have deer camped in remote mountain areas, and use my ATv to run a short trap line, and extensively used it for deer, bear and goose hunting and feeding horses and a few cows.

I have two small trailers both ATV trail legal. One is a steel trailer the other aluminum. both have the same 5 bolt pattern used for trailers. Ine had those small . The aluminum trailer has 13' tires to provide flotation and rolls much easier on all sorts of ground snow and mud .

One thing if only using an ATV, buy or build an extended rack for the back.
Also get a solid front container for all sorts of extra storage. Fabric saddle bags are nice but I wouldn't use then on the front or back

I use a Kopin boot for my shotgun and rifle, but really dont like any method of mounting a firearm.
I just bungee my bow case to the front rack
