New Piece of Gear Review - Headlamp

Received a new headlamp in the mail a week or so ago. It's the ExtremeBeam OSR-800. Saw an ad for it in an American Rifleman mag my buddy left in my office. Holy catfish is this thing bright! Not sure if it's the long snout or what, but when adjusted to spotlight/long range mode, you can throw a concentrated beam of light close to 100 yards and really illuminate something. I had a blacktail munching on a deer feed block on the other side of my back yard fence a few nights ago so I snuck out the front door and walked out to my shop which is 90+ yards away from Dora Doe. Really was able to light the old girl up with the spotlight beam adjusted to long range. With a push or pull on the snouth, it goes from spotlight to wide angle/flood light easily. Three settings are high, low, and strobe. It appears very well build, reasonably light, and sits on your head with an adjustable strap system. Runs on three AAA batteries (no recharging required). Here's the kicker........ it's only $30! I give it two thumbs up for brightness, construction, and being easy on the wallet.

Nice looking light, thanks for the review. I see it has 160 lumens, that's good. I like the feature that allows wide angle or spot.

That thing is definitely different than any other I've looked at. my only concern would be that with how far it protrudes out the front it could get to flopping around.... bouncing up and down when I'm hiking. I hate "floppy" headlamps. I don't even want to know I have one on. But it does look like you could use it for a spotlight!

I'm in the market for a backup headlamp.

Ya it's a bit different with the length but feels solid to wear and doesn't seem to shake/flop. When worn 'under the hat' the light is barely covered by the bill which is good to keep it dry on a rainy walk. It's certainly is a bit larger than the standard headlamps but I think the performance makes up for it being a bit more bulky. It's still very light IMO.

I have been using one very similar I got off Amazon for a couple years ago. That thing is bright now! My only complaint is that the batteries (AAA) were housed right behind the light and they would get to bouncing around. It had the exact same brightness modes as yours. Overall a great light!!

Gonna try to put my action cam on the bill of my hat, new light under hat, and see if a quick vid shows how well the light works after it gets dark. Will post it up later if it works ok.

OK, just went outside with my WGI Action Cam on the bill of my hat and the Extremebeam headlamp on my head under my hat. With my little action cam in IR, I was disappointed at the quality of the VID (as far as showing the brightness of the headlamp). This does not show how bright the Extremebeam is at all but hopefully, you can see the lamp can be adjusted for a pretty nice/tight spotlight beam. It's certainly longer than an average headlamp but I don't see a problem with it's functionality. I think it's a great deal for 30 bones. It'll be my primary light this fall with my Zebra flood headlamp as a backup.

I have one very similar to that I picked up this duck season, but it's a duck commander brand an looks just about the same. It is bright brith and was about 30 bucks. They are nice but this ones batteries didn't last long, not sure if it was the -15 weather or they just don't last but it's in my elk pack now

I hear ya Eric. This place has prompted me to get more than a few pieces of gear. Glad you like the lamp.
