Is your Gameplan Fullproof?

What goes into developing your gameplan? And do you stick with it? And if not, how long do you give it before going to option b?

But you asked 4 completely different questions! Here is my take.

1. No, my 2013 game plan was not fool proof. In fact, it was written by a fool
2. I developed my 2013 game plan over the course of a long summer of scouting. I knew where I wanted to be, and at what time of day.
3. Yes--stupidly--I stuck with the plan. Problem was, it was the wrong plan for the situation (I found out later).
4. It took me and my partner 2 days to realize that we weren't seeing elk, and just getting cold and soaked in the process. But this was good experience; the next weekend I went back to my area with another partner, and bailed on the plan and area after 1/2 day. So, yes, I am getting smarter, but still no horns for the effort.

No. Way to many variables in hunting for me to think my game plan is full proof. This is why I have plans A-Z.

Boy, how I wish it were fool proof, but it's not. I used my past experiences in the area to formulate my plan. This will be my third year in this new area and the familiarity I have with it is really making me excited. Tips I pick up here also help formulate my plan. I have 4 plans in my head right now, all involving similar techniques, but different drainages. If the first area is really good and I don't spook the elk, I will probably go to the same area the next day. I don't give up on a plan easily, some days I go into an area and see nothing, the next day may have me finding lots of elk.

I usually run out of time before I run out of confidence.

I think the only fool proof system is to pay the guy in blue jeans to walk you out on the private ranch point to the elk and say shoot this one. At least that's how it works on t.v.

My game plan is simple each day we head out, find elk, work elk, kill elk! (grin) I rarely just head to a particular place & if no elk are there head back to camp, no sir, we keep moving until elk are located, this is generally through sound! If early season & elk are quiet we will change strategies as needed. Nothing set in stone here!

foolproof - hardly.
the game plan is prepared and reviewed about 200 times before I leave TX.
there is always a set of what ifs, that if they are encountered I have some pre-thought out options.
they never work out either.

Now merging this thread with the one about are you stuck in a rut - there were years where I was determined to work the plan till death even though there was no sign it was working. now days, I work up a plan and go hunt a 1000 miles from home.
then, I hunt and work the plan but the first moment something different happens - I decide on the spot - to act the same plan or do something else. I call it the you cant play the card until it hits the table approach. Is that just years of experience talking?

It's kinda like fishing,I like to give the area a chance to produce something good.If nothing is happening then I change lures ( calls ,tactics ). If nothing still then I relocate until I either find something or hear something and start the process over again.Oh and my uncle used to tell me "you have to hold your mouth just right" whatever that meant.Can you see me in the mountains now with all these goofy looks on my face trying to get the right hold. It's hard for me to get bored in the mountains,I can usually keep myself pretty entertained,lol. Really though,I keep doing whatever it takes until things are happening.
