5 Dog Stove vs Wilderness 5?

Postby Big Tool » 03 23, 2014 •  [Post 1]

Was doing some shopping on walltentshop.com and I'm interested in these two stoves. Seem very comparable in terms of specs, just curious what others chose and why before I make a decision.

Trying to shed some weight and bulk for 2014 and it looks like the barrel stove is going to get the axe. It heats great and holds coals all night, but it's pretty dang bulky both in terms of taking up space in the truck and in the tent. It would also be pretty handy having the flat cook top..

Jerry, we too are looking for a new stove this year & are not 100% sure which one? I'm going to call Rick there at the Walltent Shop & get his opinion on sizes & burn time in the stoves he carries, Rick is a great source of info. I picked up a walltent from him as well & it's top notch so I know the stoves he carries will be as well. We have a 12X14 tent so don't want to be burned out on days where we just want the chill off but also don't want to be under gunned on those 0 to 15 deg days either. Talk with Rick, he'll help you out.

I bought a 2 dog stove for my 12x12 alaknak tent. I chose that stove because of the steel and the sealed door along with the baffle plate the inhibits sparks and provides a good flat cooking surface. I have burned the stove in but will not get to test it our till October. I looked at a lot of stoves but liked the 2,3 and 4 dog stoves.
