Post Up Your Elk Sounds 2014 - Part 5, Bugles w/Chuckles

It’s bugle with chuckles time fellow elknuts. Not only do you get to entertain your family, pets, neighbors and friends with recorded elk noises, you'll also get some positive feedback and possible ways to improve your sounds from some fellow hunters and elk callers once you post your sounds up. I start these threads each spring with the hope that it’ll help us all be better callers by the time that first hunting morning rolls around. Remember, you can chime in on any of the post em up threads throughout the year.

Your bugle was very good! It was a bull demanding for a visual or asking a cow/cows to come his way when associated with the chuckling. Yes, the chuckles sounded a lot like cow calls, try to add more bull tone or grunt type sound, the pace for chuckling was good!

JJ, all you need to do... is get rid of all of growl in your voice and drop your jaw a little more so your tongue automatically pulls back and has a bit of a bigger hump in it. Your tongue is coming in too the latex too flat. Which in turn causes you to hit too high of a pitch when you do your chuckles or grunts or nervous grunt. you are going from 0 to 60-->You want 0-20,30,40 tops. the grunts and chuckles are all low to mid tone. Every one of these sounds comes off of a mini bugle or a variation off of a mini bugle. Get rid of the growl. Soften up the high pitches to more of a mid tone. Do the same thing on your cow and calf sounds. Less is more. Soften them up. Do it slow and methodical... and elongate everything. so you can feel it and learn it. Pick each part of the bugle or grunt apart and work on 1 piece at a time.

I remember coming home from Work and my 5 year old son was watching a video I had recorded of World Elk Calling Pro Champ Dan Whitmus. Dan let me video him while he was showing me his bugles and grunts , so I could get better. My son was just learning how to use a mouth diaphragm.....Anyway my 5 year old son, is flat out doing some of the best grunts I had ever heard. As good as any Pro IMO!!!
I couldn't believe the sounds coming from him! I asked him "Buddy, How are you doing those grunts like that??!!!" SHOW ME!! He looked at me and said do it like this...So when I tried the grunts, he said, No, Not like that.... You are using Too much Voice Dad> I had watched that video LOTS of times! It took a 5 year old kid to point out what I needed to do to change my grunts. A few months later that little kid became a world Champion. Go figure.

Nice Wyatt, very nice.. Really liked the chuckles. I hope you don't plan on hunting N Idaho this fall. I'd "probably" come in to those chuckles if you do

We are going to Oregon, then back to MT this year RJ. I did tell Wyatt that he needs to practice a lot more before I let him call for us

BRENT! Nice, now that you slowed down the begging to get the intro with the goose call breaking the reed speed it up just a bit. The chuckles toward the end of the second bugle were awesome. Use a maximum of 10 chuckles for now, cadence is the most important. If you are like me it takes a couple of them to feel the cadence. Mannn you are killing it, you will be golden this season.
