Which Katadyn H2O filter

Would you pick the Vario or the Hiker Pro. Any others I need to look at?

I've been wondering the same thing. I have a sawyer squeeze that I love but I'm worried about having a big enough source to fill it. The vario will do 3l/min where the hiker is 2 correct? Is the hiker pro sturdier or will it filter a lot more in the lifetime of a filter? With everything equal I would pay the extra $ upfront for a 33% increase in speed.

Cut a cheap water bottle in half and use it as a funnel on the sawyer

Or use the water bottle version of the sawyer and buy a cheap Walmart bladder and use it as a gravity system.

I highly recommend a gravity style filter. It does the work for you while you glass for animals or have a snack. Don't waste time pushing a pump. I made one by ordering the MSR filter, bought some plastic hose from the hardwares store, and a couple of platypus bags. I love it.

My guess is I'll get outvoted by people who like the Pro Hiker because it's lighter but I prefer the Vario. I love it. I've owned all kinds over the years and it's my favorite. It's lightning fast. Has a pre-filter. But the big difference is the pump handle design. The lever action is just easier to use in my opinion and less chance of breaking. I don't carry mine around all day but instead it stays in camp or at my water source so I don't mind a little extra weight.

I like a pump. More versatile. If you have to get water from some seep or crack in the earth you are screwed with a gravity filter.

I like the hiker pro. The most badass pump filter is the FirstNeed. A tad bulky and heavier than our hiker pro. But it is a faster. And it is a true purifier. Bonus you can put it in gravity mode. I got it when I was exploring south east Asia.

I use the hiker pro in my pack and have the Katadyn Camp gravity filter for back in camp. The both use the same replacement elements which cuts down needing a back up for both.

How about the Pocket Microfilter? Too big or heavy? Says it filters 10k plus gals
