Horn Hunter Packs

I have been using Horn Hunter and Splash Waterfowl hunting gear for a while now and have been more and more impressed with every trip. My Horn Hunter pack has been through some serious abuse and it just keeps on performing for me. I have been wondering why people aren't talking about their packs as much as Eberlestock or Badlands. Horn Hunter and all gear by Sportsmans Outdoor Products have an amazing warranty and every time I have called them their costomer service has been top notch. They are MADE IN THE USA which is another great incentive to buy from them and I really think my full curl pack is the all-in-one, do-all pack that will work perfectly for everyone.
I would really like to hear about other peoples experiences with Horn Hunter or any Sportsmans Outdoor Products gear. Or why you guys think they aren't mentioned as much when the conversation of "which pack to buy" comes up. I know when I was shopping for my pack information on forums was very limited.

I have the full curl. I really like it. it handled the 70-80 pounds of gear while we hiked in for our spike camp. as a hunting pack, it squeaks like hell. I took out the frame and wrapped duct tape around it to try and reduce the vibration sounds causing the squeak. it helped some. but, I am looking forward to hauling out an elk with it.

I think it boils down to marketing and the fact that HH hasn't been around as long as Eberle and Badlands. HH has been in Cabelas for about 4-5 years now so they've broken into the mainstream. I think it will just take time.
I was going to pull the trigger on a Full Curl System which is a lot of pack for $300 but then jumped on the Kifaru bandwagon when they had their sale on OD Green. I couldn't pass that deal up. I'm still tempted to pick up a slingshot since I hate fanny packs.

I'm expecting my Full Curl System any day now. It's like a kid at Christmas. Been searching a long time, reading reviews, and talking to HH owners and couldn't find any downfall to the purchase. Kind of disappointed to her that it may squeak. I've got a Slingshot pack that has been awesome the past few hunts but I hardly ever use it now that I'm carrying a Tool Bucket with my stand attached.

I have heard of this issue with squeaking before. If you call Horn Hunter they will get it figured out. I believe it just takes a simple adjustment and the squeak will be fixed.

Those sling shot packs do look pretty awesome. Let us know how it works out if you pick one up.

yeah the squeak was not just mine. we also researched and researched backs and finally came up with the full curl. so all three of us bought one. i didn't hear the squeak the first year. the other two did. last year i was irritated by the squeaking of my partners pack. thats when he told me they fought with it the year before. my started getting progressively worse as the season went on.... to me it seemed as though the hollow aluminum tube frame amplified the friction noise of the pack material. i should call them to see what the solution might be.

Would adding expanding foam to the hollow Al frame absorb the noise? Several guys have added the foam to their hollow Al frame treestands (Summit) and claim great results in decreasing noise while not adding significant weight to the stand.

Summit finally took the hint and have begun adding foam to their stands at the factory. It's called "dead metal" technology.

mrbill, I could see that working. last sept I was thinking that if I only I had a drill and some tube caulk. I wouldn't have to fill the entire frame, but squeeze some into the frame every so often to decrease the hollowness.

From reading the posts it sounds fairly easy... Attach a long tube (like nasal cannula type tubing) to the can of foam and insert to about the middle of the item. As you withdraw the tube, fill with foam. Insert the tube the same way on the other end of the tube and repeat.

Call HH they have a fleece sleeve to fix the problem (and its free). Great customer service.

My pack arrived yesterday and it's got some black shrink wrap tube around the ends of the aluminum frame. This might be the fix on the new 2014 packs. Haven't had a chance to put any weight in it yet. Will check back in after I mess around with it some.
