Missed Phone call from CO

Postby timberland » 03 13, 2014 •  [Post 1]

I missed a phone call last night from CO DPW asking for input. (Wife took the call, asked me what was up my sleeve for Sept) Anybody else get the call? What did I miss?

I didn't get a call from last years hunt, but my buddy did. he never answered it and they called back numerous times. had them call two years ago, they had me take a survey of my hunt.

I missed the call as well... the message said they were calling for input and opinions on the 5 year big game structure. It said you had a hour to call back and of course I got the message 2 hours after the call.

my son and I have been called two yrs in a row. it hard to answer there question on what units did you hunt when you hunted several units that season and how many days did you spend in what units. other than that the questions are basic. if you missed there call don't worry, they WILL keep calling.

I got the call and answered it - glad I did. It was not the post hunt survey that many of us get but a live "town hall" phone conference with 3 CPW staff and resident hunters from across CO and then another call/meeting for non-residents. Preference points were a hot topic. A couple of guys were pushing for banking points again. CPW is hearing this quite a bit and seriously considering it. I hope this doesn't happen. I tried to give my two cents worth on the subject but they ran out of time. At the end you could hang on and give your input which I did but they must have messed it up because the call went dead. I did fill out the survey and mailed it in.

I thought it was an hour well spent but it would have been nice to know that the call was coming as they would have had a lot more hunters involved. It should probably be a 2 hour meeting also.

Educate me, Why not?

Maybe we should start a thread Pros and Cons of banking Pref Points?

TripleB

I think having a post on point banking would be a good idea - or maybe have the post be on fixing point creep - point banking may be one suggestion but who knows, maybe someone has a better idea. No doubt point creep is a very complicated issue and there is no easy fix or it would have been done by now. The reason I am not keen on point banking is, I like a good % of the licensed hunters, am on the back side of my hunting days and I will be dead before I would draw the premier units that require a pile of points. Instead I choose to hunt more often, so consequently, I choose units that require 1 or 2 points to draw. Granted the quality isn't like the high points units but being able to hunt is more important to me. What I see happening if point banking comes back is some guys that have double digit points will give up on the premier units and instead start applying for easier to draw units multiple times - which is the purpose of point banking. But when this happens there is a good chance that the units that now require 1 or 2 points may end up requiring 3 or 4. So the premier units get easier to draw and the easier to draw units get harder to draw.

ThinAir thanks for you view, I would have to say that I havnt been involved with this long enough to have an opinion. For the most part I do see the western states put a lot of thought into their decisions making process.
