Carpenter's or Sheetrock knife for field butchering?

Just wondering if anyone has tried one or if you think it may work to break a elk down, much cheaper than a Havalon.

If you're talking about a utility knife with the replaceable blades, forget about it. I tried to use one on an elk once. This was before Havalon, and I had the same idea. That thing was worthless. Not sure why, but there's no way I was cutting that bull up with that utility knife. Havalon, apparently, has it figured out. I sure didn't.

They work well for gutting an animal with a hooked roofing blade. The regular blades are useless on game IMO.

The hooked blades worked really great for cutting down the hide, actually seemed like less hair to clean up. Couldn't imagine using it for anything else though.
