This Years Weapon Of Choice?

Was curious as to what most would be using this year on their hunts? With so many options these days between, Rifle, Muzzy, Crossbows, Compounds, Trad gear, etc. I'm considering a Recurve & Compound for Elk & a Rifle for Muleys! How about everyone else?

Just the old Alpine F1 (compound) for me this year. I'll hunt a long weekend in WA, early SEP, the last two weeks of SEP in ID, and then a long weekend during the late season in WA (NOV). I've always wanted to get into the stick bows but never have taken the plunge.

I usually use a bow but this year my partner wants to try 1st rifle in colorado. If we don't draw we go back to the last two weeks of archery OTC

I wouldn't call it "of choice". I have school until October 1st. I won't be hunting anything until after that. :cry:

That means gun only for elk. I'll sure be looking forward to bow hunting deer this year.

State of CO gave me permission to hunt w crossbow during archery season, so I'm gearing up for some Sept. hunts this year, and probably rifle elk as well. Saving all my deer pref points in hope that CO resumes point banking. I hope the monsoon is tamer this Sept. than last!

that was supposed the 500 year flood last year.... :roll:

but going back to a bow this year as Idaho has traditional muzzleloader only.

Matthews Helim for elk and Whitetail. Shotgun for deer unless Minnesota change's laws and 22-250 for the yote's. And I hope to put a lot of hole's in targets.

All of the above. Whitetail youth hunt in September with my son .223 and crossbow. October whitetail crossbow for my son Matthews Z7 for me. He cant pull enough poundage yet. 2nd season rifle Colorado elk after pee wee football season. I'll take the Z7 for a leftover cow tag after I've got meat on the ground. November rifle whitetail. December back at the whitetail's with the bow, and muzzleloader. January, February, and March I'll chase a few bunnies with my Bear Archery recurve.

Is a .223 enough power to knock down an elk? I wouldn't be comfortable with that light of a bullet.

The girlfriend will be using either her 260 rem model 7 youth or 308 model 99, most likely the 260, working up some 120gr GMX, if i can safely get 2700fps out of her little Model 7, that will be her go to gun. Ill probably either be using Win 70 in 270 wsm, or Savage 110 in 7mm Rem mag, I have some 150gr TSXs that are moving out at 3200fps out of the 7mm, need to get on the reloading bench and work up some loads for the 270wsm. Id really like to bring one of my 99s in 284, but Id hate to fall and bust up the gun, way to pretty.

Sometimes an F-250 isn't enough to knock down an elk. My 7 mm mag decked only one of the 10 elk I've taken with it. In CO, .223 is illegal for all big game.

Traditional bows. Recurve this year for elk hunting. Made my mind up a few months ago. I have the longbow as back up.

I just got a Hoyt carbon spyder 30. I am so pumped about killing a big bull with it. That being said I will still take out my recurve a few days for elk. For whitetail I'll use the recurve first because I've never killed anything with it other then trees!

PSE OMEN " THE BEAST" 612gr arrow hit 298fps. im just hoping its got enough power for elk

PSE PHENOM (my target bow) 390gr arrow hitting 297fps for a plains deer season tag.

son, PSE EVO 487gr arrow getting 263fps for elk and plains deer

wife, PSE PREMONITION 288gr arrow getting 241fps for possibly a deer tag or elk

2013 Hoyt Charger with carbon express maxim hunters 350 grain and shuttle t's for elk and whitetail. Firearm season it's a shotgun for whitetail and .22.250 for coyotes.
