Gotta have two!

I "always" carry two headlamps with me; one primary and one backup in case the primary fails to work or breaks. It is one of the few pieces of gear that I feel are so indispensable that I want to ensure I always have a spare with me when out and about. What piece of gear do you cats double up on when out hunting?

I have a headlamp and a small LED maglite in my pack always. I also carry my old finger shooting glove in my pack. I have an extra release in my truck always.

I triple up on fire starting.

I usually have twice the water I'll need for the day. (A filter/purifier is on the short list for this fall)

I always have an extra pair of socks in my day pack.

Will always have at least two different fire starters.

I don't carry extra batteries as I have two headlamps and a GPS so can shuffle those between if the need arose.

Have two knives as well. I fell victim to the Havalon hype and will never leave the truck or camp without my fixed blade knife so have been carrying two of those.

I carried a small hand light in addition to my head lamp last year. This year I will be leaving the small flashlight behind.
I also brought a back up release with me into cap.....I have shot my bow without it (just my fingers) and found I cannot come close to hitting where my pins are. Line of sight is too far off, so if i lose or break my release, I am out of luck without a back up.
Extra practice broad-head and field point for practice on a stump or for those tasty grouse.

nope, just one headlamp. my Petzl is pretty damn old, but very reliable. i do however have a second identical headlamp in the truck. i used to only have one..pull open the backpack, fish it out..use it while messing around the truck (loading, locking up, etc) and FORGET it at the truck only to find it missing when i have hiked up into the mountains. DUH!!! now i never mess with the one in my pack. load it up with fresh batteries, pack it, leave it alone. i'll monkey around with the truck petzl.

i do bring along an awesome streamlight single CR123 battery light. it is just a tad bigger than a stick of chapstick. it is a lazer! super bright..it has a belt clip i can clip onto my ball cap if i need handsfree. the battery is super stable and doesnt discharge in storage like a regular alkaline. i've used it to track blood trails. it is fantastic. not too expensive. i like have a backup light..but i want the light different so i can do different task with them.

Oh yeah, you have to have 2 lights of some sort, I usually carry a mag lite and head lamp.

Funny story along those lines. When I killed my bull, we packed it out right at dark, my dad was following me with a shoulder, I was packing out the antlers, hindquarter and backstraps , he had a heart condition so I was scrambling as fast as I could to get back to the truck and back up the mountain to take his pack from him, so I run back up the mountain on the pack trail I came down on and his is nowhere to be seen. A quick call on the radio asking where the heck he was, his reply was, I dont know I cant see where Im going, so I asked him if his flashlight died, he came back, no I didnt bring one, your in the selway bitteroot wilderness at night without some kind of light? So fast foward to the next night, we're packing out the rest of the elk, same scenario, I fly down the mountain, unload my pack and back up I go, again, I cant find him, again Im on the radio, where are you, again I dont know, I didnt bring a flashlight again

+1 on headlamp/Maglite, firestarter/lighters, extra pair of work gloves, backup knife, extra bootlaces, extra calls. There is even an old Power bar and halazone tablets in the bottom of my fanny pack in case I have to survive a while.

I double up on all kinds of stuff. I'm about half paranoid of not having something I may need. Most people wouldn't want to carry my pack around all day.

2 lights for me, I had 1 fail in the night hiking out and thats no fun, also a couple ways to start a fire.
I also like to have a couple freinds when packing elk out.

I do the same as almost everyone here. BUT I carry a whole roll of TP with me. I hate only having one sock as a backup

Headlamp and small flashlight for me along with the xtra batteries. I keep my new batteries wrapped in a gumband in a ziplock baggie. When I change out, the dead batteries go in loose so there is no guessing when I restock my pack.
Bic lighters and fire bombs (vasalene and cotton balls) as well.
