Free Elk Calls!

I wanted to give the first 25 people who respond to this thread a free Glacier Country elk call, shipping included. All I need is the type of call (cow or bull) that you would like to receive. Once you have responded to the thread please PM me with your name and address and Glacier Country will get them sent out. This is paid for completely by me. I call it passing it on.

The reason I wanted to do this is because I believe in their products and would like to share it with others. They have the most realistic sounds in my opinion of any calls on the market. I have been using elk calls for nearly 25 years and they do make a difference. This is open to anybody that would like to receive one. New members and older members alike.

I've been using my reeds pretty hard lately, I know their days are numbered, and have been considering looking at some others, and I'd like to try a Glacier Country. On a forum here in MS, we do a traveling turkey call. Guys sign up for it, and call makers send out a few that guys hunt with and then send to other folks on the forum. People get to try out other call makers products, and some of the calls end up with quite a few birds to their credit at the end of the season. Wouldn't work with reeds, but it might on bugle tubes.

Wow! I just got home from work and saw this thread. I didn't realize Craig made this post to supply ElkNut members my bull and cow reeds. That is fantastic! He's a great customer who believes in these calls and has seen them work first hand. This is all his idea and he is footing the bill for the calls! Now guys, don't tell anyone where I posted my first thanks for the new Glacier Country call. I will need to be out hunting again by August and don't want to be committed to a special institution now. I know a good psychiatric evaluation could take way too long. I have things I need to get done.
Anyway, Thanks again for the call. I appreciate it very much. I never tried one before because, as I said, I have been staying with palate plate diaphragms for quite a while now. I started with Larry D. Jones calls and they were OK. The palate plate diaphragms were a significant improvement. That said, I was shocked at how good the sound was coming from that new Orange Enrager. It is just excellent. I do not need a palate plate to make quality elk calls. Again Thanks, and remember hunters, let's keep it our secret where I posted first.

Trust me, it doesn't matter if you sound like a sick ferret to begin with, after some of best callers around start giving you some recommendations for adjustment, you'll be pleasantly surprised at your improvement.

I did notice this reed working well with my palate. I have a small boney ridge at the center of my palate and using a reed with a palate plate required me to position it forward in my mouth for comfort and stability. The reed I received today (thank you) allows me to position it a little further back with comfort.

I feel like I can make some adequate cow sounds with my diaphragms and open reed calls, but I'm no where close on the bugles. Which of these calls would you recommend for an inexperienced bugler?

I would recommend the Orange Enrager, it is a very versatile reed with great tones and ease of use. Glad to see you out of your cocoon and looking forward to your posts!

The Orange Enrager is a fantastic call for beginners because it's so versatile and easy to blow,it does good high-pitched cow calf sounds but the bugles are just World class. We Have found that It's an easy call for new users to to use And make calling veterans say WOW!
The watermelon call sets the standard for versatility in our line, it's just does great cow calf sounds fantastic bugles it's just the standard in a versatile elk call! What I'm trying to do is develop a line of calls for everyone from the new user to the guy who wants to be the next RMEF World Champion. I am always trying to make the calls better!!
I also have a couple new calls in the works ... So stay tuned in the future I'm going to show you how to get the how to get the most out of your diaphragm calls . My goal is to take your calling to a whole new level!

Triplebhunters, The link you posted is pretty good advice for turkey calling ...

MOST of you will not read all of this post... and will miss out on some Excellent "How To" advice specifically for elk diaphragm calls.

Most elk callers would do better if they learned how to use an ELK diaphragm in this order....
1) Figure out how the call goes in your mouth, depending on what kind of call it is ... and who makes it, this might be slightly different.
The latex and open part of the U goes toward your teeth! The middle of your tongue goes toward the open end of the U . This is so your tongue can flex up ( like a bicep) as you go from the lower pitches to higher pitches.
2) Learn how to make the high pitch of the calf EEEE EEEE EEEE or (say the word Knee)
3)Learn Cow Sounds EEEE OWWW
4) Elongate the High pitch of Calf sound into a small Bugle. eeeeEEEE
5) Learn how to do bigger bugles and Location Bugles
6) Learn how to speak like an elk using TONE > INTENSITY > PITCH >> This fits the right call with the right situation. Say the right thing at the right time!

With Glacier Country Hunting calls, and the right technique, I have proven that a double reed bull call Like the (Orange Enrager) can be about as easy to use as a single reed call and get fantastic results!! The better your technique the more Confidence you will have and the more calls you will be able to use... Singles, doubles, triples... All this translates into Elk sounds ,Turkey sounds, Coyote sounds. Just to name a few. How versatile you want to be is really up to you!

Here are some Advanced Techniques ...
NOBODY ELSE teaches this ( MID Tone Goose Call Stuff) unless they learned it from Troy At Glacier Country Hunting Calls.

IMO to make really good elk sounds Especially BUGLES you need to Lower Your JAW ,which automatically pulls your tongue back... This combined with also starting with a low tone then to a higher tone, like a Goose Sound( done right) this forces you to automatically tighten your abs, which forces the air up from your diaphragm which then will make the reed break to a higher tone on its own.Then you will add more tongue and air pressure to get to the higher pitches. This creates a situation that helps you to better control your air. Which translates into more control and better sounds.

Here is a HUGE TIP... Lots of guys like to start a bugle with a growl,but spend WAY too much time on the growl or low tone at the beginning of the bugle> Here, is the TIP... The longer you spend on the low tone the more air you lose Exponentially on the higher tone. So get out of the low tones Quick.

A lot of you are also starting your bugle on just the High pitch. When you start on the highest pitch you leave no room for your tongue to flex, taking away the versatility and loudness of the mid tones. You do not get Bugles as loud as you could, coming from a lower tone with your jaw lower, and then breaking to the higher tones. ...
I have found the goose sound does this without much thinking on your part. I believe this mid tone goose sound , to be a better technique. I can do a clear bugle off of it or add a growl in the beginning , through out , on the end , whatever I want to do, which adds Versatility, Realism and Inflection! This I describe simply as... TONE >INTENSITY >and PITCH! This is how you add realism to your setups. Why do I call in lots of elk?? I paint a picture in an elks mind,with realistic sounds. I tell them what I believe will get them in my strike zone. Especially in the hardest hunted areas REALISTIC sounds get the job done, where mediocre sounds might not!

This way you will at least know what these calls sound like. Hear the Goose sound in some of these??

During last years post for location bugles it was discussed about how to hit the top note or two off the bat for that type of call. For example, don't do 1 - 2 - 3 notes, just hit the 3 or the 2 - 3. Listening to your calls, and the ones in the location bugle thread, you still like the goose sound to start. Is it still necessary to be flexible for this type of call? Is this something that I want to make sure I use for my bugles when adding Tone, Intensity and Pitch....or stick to the basic for that one call and use that type of inflection in my calls for the others? Listening to mine again 3 out of the 4 were straight one or two note bugles. the 3rd one has the goose type start in it. Maybe adding it in gets the response you are talking about? Just pondering with some thoughts over lunch hour and going over your recordings.....Maybe too much thought into it? Either way, thanks for the post and the recordings!
Side note....One thing I noticed is I can hold that high note easier without it breaking when starting with that goose type sound. Listening to myself, I cant tell if I can hold a higher note overall or not....but thats listening to myself...

Brent, your air control is really good . I'm at the end of lunch so i will have to get back with you on some of this but... all of you should practice a goose sound from low to high and really pop that high pitch of the goose sound. If you do it right you will feel your abs tighten and your shoulders will come up a bit from the high pitch,of the goose call. Then the reed will break on its own and THEN add more tongue and air pressure. May be I should post up the sounds in a new thread ? I will probably start with how to put a diaphragm in your mouth.?

Wasn't sure where to post this one because it has some random calls on it but I got motivated after talking with Troy on the phone this afternoon. Pay attention the to audio he has provided here guys! A lot of free calls out there that seem to be going unused! Something he said on the phone today about rolling my tongue in the beginning, dropping my shoulders back with that air pressure from your gut....had to try it after work for a little bit and I feel like I am getting closer to the right sound here. If you think I sound half decent, well that's from maybe one year of practice with these guys giving feed back on these type of threads and the post up your sounds RJ is providing for you. And heck, for most of you thinking it sounds rusty, post yours up so we can hear the right way
